2023 FrightFall Readathon - Let's get scary!

It's time! And once again, the readathon is part of Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of If It Bleeds by Stephen King. We are just finishing the second of the four novella collection so there's still time to join us.

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I will be offering my usual couple of prizes (see below to enter the charity donation prize).

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget our Facebook group, Facebook Page, our Goodreads group, and our Instagram...and our Discord. If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will post a mid-event check in post mid-month so be sure to stop by and leave your progress, or a link, in the comments.

Hashtag across all social media is #FrightFall Feel free to also use #Readathon and #SomethingWickedFall

The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, Ukraine relief, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Charity Giveaway (Google Form):
https://forms.gle/r45bjV4KjzKLJR9y8

(I will draw the winner at the end of the first week. Winner must respond within 48 hours or a new winner will be drawn.)

Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding sign up and wrap up, especially in regards to the giveaway.

The one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #FrightFall We have our Facebook group and Facebook Page, and don't forget our Goodreads group and our Instagram. (There are also access tabs in the sidebar menu.) Our Discord is always open. There are channels for FrightFall and Something Wicked Fall in the sidebar. Stop by and chat any time!

Some orders of business...
  • Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (to a social justice charity) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize, $5 Amazon which is awarded after all wrap-ups are in.
  • We use a Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).
  • Grab the button (handy embed code in sidebar, or save image at the top of the post).

FrightFall
has officially been a part of Something Wicked Fall for five years now. The event runs September/October over at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of Stephen King's If It Bleeds, a collection of four novellas, through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. The reading schedule is posted on the event post, linked above and below. The discussion post for the first novella, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, is here

Winter's Respite - The readathon is over, winter is not

Don't get me wrong, I love winter, but this is starting to wear on me. Sending out positive vibes to anyone else who is fed up with winter. I do hope your reading helped to take your mind off the weather.

To wrap up, go to the link for the wrap-up form at the end of this post and fill it out, including a link to your wrap-up (whether it's a blog post, a Goodreads shelf, social media status...anything goes, as long as I can see you did indeed participate). You will also indicate if you want a chance at a prize by selecting yes or no in the form. Be sure to double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Monday, March 6th at 11:59 pm EST to fill out the form. I will email the winner within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. The prize is listed here on the mid-event check-in page.

Stay tuned for Spring into Horror coming up in April. I will have sign-ups open soon. I hope you will join us.

That's it! Thanks again for joining in on another readathon!

(If you would like others to visit your wrap-up post, please leave a comment below with the link to your wrap-up, or you can visit participants via the starting line post linky here.)

Winter's Respite 2023 - Mid-Event Check-In

I can't believe it's the middle of February already! I know many celebrated Valentine's yesterday, but I'm celebrating today...Happy Singles Awareness Day! lol

Congrats to the winner of the charity prize, Mallory. (Check your email)

PRIZE

The second prize from me is a $5 Amazon e-gift card.

Giveaway Details
This is a readathon participant only giveaway. To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post at the end of the readathon (I will give everyone until Monday, March 6th at 11:59 pm EST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form link on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. I will choose the winner of the above prize by random selection using random.org Winner will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

So, how is it going with the reading? Let me know your progress, or leave a link, in the comments.

Winter's Respite Readathon - Starting line (a little late!)

Starting this readathon off with a bag. Just dawned on me...I completely forgot about the starting post! So sorry! Let's get this underway, shall we?

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle @ True Book Addict (goals or reading goals).

I have not received any prize donations, but I will be giving away another prize, in addition to the charity prize below. With no prize donations, I will not be doing a prize page. I will post the prize I'm offering on the mid-event check-in page.

I will post a mid-event check in post at the halfway point. Our hashtag for the readathon across social media is #WintersRespite. Stop by our Facebook group, Goodreads group and check out our Instagram. We also have a Seasons of Reading Facebook page. If you haven't already, stop by and give us a like. Thanks! (You can also access all our socials via the links in the sidebar menu.) We have a Discord too. If you would like to stop by and chat anytime during the readathon, here’s the invite link: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the Ukraine relief, ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Charity giveaway (Google form): https://forms.gle/84yUz89G4A7aT7Et5

(I will draw the winner at the end of the first week)

Business finished. Now, Happy Reading!

Winter's Respite Readathon 2023 - Time to sign up!

Sign up is here! Time for a month of reading to decompress from the holidays, and all the new year goals we may already be failing at. lol Nothing better than some comfort reading.

We start at 12:00 am on February 1 and end at 11:59 pm on February 28. Times are set for the eastern time zone so adjust your times accordingly (you can use the link to the time zone converter in the sidebar menu). Of course, like most readathons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, and you can read children's books (as long as you do read some novels too). Note: Non-Fiction is also okay! You DO NOT have to participate the entire month. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be an event of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. We no longer use a wrap-up linky and we are now just using the Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post instead of the prize page. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).

Prizes...
  • I am looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! Contact me via the contact form in the menu. If you know of an author who might be interested, pass along a message. Thanks!

  • Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (to a social justice charity) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize. Hopefully, I will get some prize donations (see above). If I do, I will post the prize page during the first week of the event.

  • There will be a mid-event check-in post. If do not receive prize donations, I will share the additional prize I'm giving away on that post.
Our social media hashtag is #WintersRespite
I am no longer on Twitter (I have not deleted my accounts yet, but I no longer interact there). I'm on Mastodon at @truebookaddict@mstdn.social
We have our outstanding Facebook group and our Facebook Page, and don't forget our Goodreads group, our Instagram, and our Discord (invite link: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA)
All social media links are also in the sidebar.

Grab the button and spread the word! Grab the code in sidebar or download the image at the top of this post.

Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.

2022 Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon - Wrap-up

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed your seasonal reading. I read one and part of another holiday book. Just was not feeling it this year to be honest.

Stay tuned for the Winter's Respite Readathon coming up next month. I'll have the sign up post up in a few days.

How did you do on the reading challenge/readathon? Share your wrap up link in the linky below. It's the same linky as the sign-up so just add "wrap-up" when you enter your name, like so "Michelle@truebookaddict-Wrap-up" (you don't have to put a blog name, you can just put your name).
