2026 High Summer - Wrap-up

Our last summer readathon has come to a close, and fall is just around the corner. I can already smell it in the air! I hope you enjoyed the readathon and got in lots of good reading. I do want to apologize for not posting a mid-event check-in. With our 24-Hour readathon going on that weekend, I completely forgot.

The linky at the bottom of the post is the same one we've been using for this readathon. You can link to your wrap-up there, or leave a link (or summary) in the comments. Completely up to you, but I do try to get around to see what books everyone read.

Today kicks off Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre! The event post will be up later today over at the Castle Macabre site with all the details. The highlights...a folk horror read-along of Adam Nevill's Last Days (AND it was recently announced that it's being adapted as a streaming series...exciting!), all kinds of horror reading and watching...movie and book reviews, and more! Of course, all this will go along nicely with FrightFall coming up in October. I'll have sign-up ready for that soon.

If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle @ True Book Addict (goals or goal post).

Remember the one main "rule" of FrightFall is to read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Some orders of business...

• We have one 24-Hour readathon during each month-long event. The FrightFall 24-Hour event will be an opposite readathon, meaning we will start at 8:00 pm and end the next night at 8:00 pm. This will be this Saturday, October 4th and will end on Sunday, October 5th. Remember...8:00 pm to 8:00 pm Eastern time. I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the 24-Hour event starts. Full details about the 24-Hour readathon events on the Guidelines page.

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on October 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on October 31st. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about our readathons can be found there.

The one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Looking ahead to our Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge/Readathon, I just wanted to announce that the Yuletide Spirit blog is now The Mystical Lantern. I wanted to change from a year-round Christmas site to a site that encompasses Halloween and Yuletide seasonally. 2024 FrightFall Readathon - Mid-Event check-in (and let's start preparing for our 24-Hour Readathon!) 🎃🎃🎃

Sorry for the late post. Busy week. My mom's cat is in the hospital, I just got my Halloween decorations put up (I know...scandalous!), and my birthday was Tuesday. I'm also behind on the Fairy Tale read-along...shocker...so if you're reading along with us, I should have the discussion posted by Friday on Castle Macabre.

2023 FrightFall Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

A day past mid-event...my birthday was yesterday so I had no time to post this.

This is a readathon participant only giveaway. To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post at the end of the readathon (I will give everyone until Monday, November 6th at 11:59 pm EST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form link on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. I will choose the winner of the above prize by random selection using random.org Winner will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

The Something Wicked Fall read-along of Stephen King's If It Bleeds is still going on. I'll try to have Discussion Three on the third novella in the collection (If It Bleeds) sometime today. That will be posted over at Castle Macabre. 

This Saturday (10/21) is Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. There is no official sign-up on their website yet, but they have been posting information in their Facebook group and the Goodreads group. Are you planning to participate? I am, and I'm hoping to do some good scary reading ALL day.

It's time! And once again, the readathon is part of Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of If It Bleeds by Stephen King. We are just finishing the second of the four novella collection so there's still time to join us.

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

FrightFall has officially been a part of Something Wicked Fall for five years now. The event runs September/October over at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of Stephen King's If It Bleeds, a collection of four novellas, through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. High Summer Readathon 2023 - It's a wrap

I hope everyone enjoyed High Summer and that you were able to get a lot of reading in. Thank you all so much for joining me for another readathon!

To wrap up, go to the link for the wrap-up form at the end of this post and fill it out, including a link to your wrap-up (whether it's a blog post, a Goodreads shelf, social media status...anything goes, as long as I can see you did indeed participate). You will also indicate if you want a chance at a prize by selecting yes or no in the form. Be sure to double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Friday, September 8 at 11:59 pm EDT to fill out the form. I will email the winner within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. The prize is listed here on the mid-event check-in page.

I have not received a response from Michele, who won the charity donation prize at the beginning of the readathon. If she doesn't see this and respond, I will draw a new winner. I will notify you via email.

FrightFall Readathon 2022 - Mid-Event Check-In

A day or so past mid-event. Saturday was my birthday and I was making quite merry over the weekend. 😁

This is a readathon participant only giveaway. To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post at the end of the readathon (I will give everyone until Friday, November 4th at 11:59 pm EST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form link on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. I will choose the winner of the above prize by random selection using random.org Winner will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

FrightFall Readathon - Time to get your scary on!

It's time! And once again, the readathon is part of Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle (we're not that far in, if you want to join us).

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.
