  1. Challenge - Pick a level
  2. Readathon - read as much (or as little) as you want

Regarding the reading of Christmas books, for the readathon, you do not have to read only Christmas books. I am always reading regular genres along with Christmas books during the season. Please do try to read at least one though. 🎄

Additional levels:

--Fa La La La Films: watch a bunch or a few Christmas movies...it's up to you!
--Visions of Sugar Plums: read books with your children this season and share what you read

*the additional levels are optional, you still must complete one of the main reading levels above

I will have a review linky posted as a page at the Yuletide Spirit site the day the challenge starts. You will find it in the menu at the top of the blog.

Sign up in the linky below. This linky will be the same one on this site and over at Yuletide SpiritNo need to sign up both places (though you can leave a comment here and over there if you are indeed participating in both)For this readathon in particular, we will do a wrap-up linky, in keeping with the regular process for the reading challenge.

THE PRIZE: The first person to post a review (must be from a book started on or after November 21) in the review linky will win a $15 charitable donation to human rights organization of their choice, such as a Ukraine relief charity, ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, Planned Parenthood, or another human rights organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. Animal rights or rescue organizations are another option. FrightFall Readathon 2022 - Mid-Event Check-In

A day or so past mid-event. Saturday was my birthday and I was making quite merry over the weekend. 😁

Congrats to the winner of the charity prize, Elyse. She chose World Central Kitchen for her donation.

To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post at the end of the readathon (I will give everyone until Friday, November 4th at 11:59 pm EST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form link on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. I will choose the winner of the above prize by random selection using random.org Winner will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

So, how is it going with the reading? Let me know your progress, or leave a link, in the comments.

I'm enjoying our Something Wicked Fall read-along of The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle. I'll be posting Discussion Three soon (by Tuesday morning) over at Castle Macabre.

I'm also reading Stephen King's If It Bleeds. I finished the first novella in the collection, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, and will be watching the movie on Netflix.

Saturday is Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon (sign up here, if you haven't already) and I'm hoping to get a big chunk of my scary reading done during the event. Let me know if you'll be joining in as well.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the readathon!

FrightFall Readathon - Time to get your scary on!

It's time! And once again, the readathon is part of Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle (we're not that far in, if you want to join us).

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I will be offering my usual couple of prizes (see below to enter the charity donation prize).

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget our Facebook group, Facebook Page, our Goodreads group, and our Instagram...and our Discord. If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will post a mid-event check in post mid-month so be sure to stop by and leave your progress, or a link, in the comments.

Hashtag across all social media is #FrightFall Feel free to also use #Readathon and #SomethingWickedFall

The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, Ukraine relief, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Charity giveaway (Google form):
https://forms.gle/iUzKME1o38aM2UoWA

(I will draw the winner at the end of the first week)

I apologize for some of the broken images on my site. I'm having an issue with my hosting. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

2022 FrightFall Readathon (and Something Wicked Fall) - Join us!

It's my favorite time of year! Another year has gone by...time flies! 🎃 I hope you guys are ready for some scary reading!

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on October 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on October 31st. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding sign up and wrap up, especially in regards to the giveaway.

The one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #FrightFall We have our outstanding Facebook group and Facebook Page, and don't forget our Goodreads group and our Instagram. (There are also access tabs in the sidebar menu.) Our Discord is always open. There are channels for FrightFall and Something Wicked Fall in the sidebar. Stop by and chat any time!

Some orders of business...
  • I am looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! Contact me via the contact form in the menu. If you know of an author who might be interested, pass along a message. Thanks!
  • Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (to a social justice charity) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize, $5 Amazon which is awarded after all wrap-ups are in.
  • We use a Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).
  • Grab the button (handy embed code in sidebar, or save image at the top of the post).

FrightFall has officially been a part of Something Wicked Fall for five years now. The event runs September/October over at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. The reading schedule is posted on the event post, linked above and below. I will be posting the first discussion over there on Sunday, September 18.

Get all the details for what's going on during Something Wicked Fall here.

Also, check out Countdown to Halloween! It's an annual event hosted by my friend Michelle aka Naila Moon. You can check out all the details here, and grab a badge if you'd like to participate.

Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.

High Summer Readathon starting line!

It's the height of summer, and the hottest time of year, in my opinion. Hope we can spend some time inside where it's cool and get our read on! Are you ready?

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form).

Prizes
In addition to the charity prize discussed below, I also offer a small prize at the end of the readathon. However, I've had to make a small change. Unfortunately, Better World Books has changed their free shipping policy and will only ship free with orders of a $15 minimum. So I will no longer be offering that prize, but I will now offer an Amazon egift of $5 to the giveway winner. I apologize for the change.
I did not receive any prize donations so the Amazon prize will be the only other prize for the readathon.

I will post a mid-event check in post at the halfway point. Our hashtag for the readathon across social media is #HSreadathon. Check out our Facebook group, Goodreads group and our Instagram...and our Facebook page. If you haven't already, stop by and give us a like. Thanks! (You can also access all our socials via the links in the sidebar menu.) We also have a Discord. If you would like to stop by and chat anytime during the readathon, here’s the invite link: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA

Charity giveaway (Google form): https://forms.gle/iUzKME1o38aM2UoWA

(I will draw the winner at the end of the first week)

Sign up for the High Summer Readathon!

I apologize for the late signup post. I was on vacation the first part of July and catching up has been...well, I'm sure you can imagine. So, let's get this handled forthwith!

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on August 1 and end at 11:59 pm eastern time August 31. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) Let's escape the heat and get some great reading in this month. Are you ready?! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Some orders of business...

Since Goodreads stopped the events feature, it has become a bit more difficult to spread the word, and to obtain prize donations. I would appreciate help in spreading the word. Also, if you know anyone (authors, etc.) who would like to donate a prize, have them message me via the contact form in the sidebar menu. Thank you!

Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (to a social justice charity) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize. Hopefully, I will get some prize donations (see above). If I do, I will post the prize page during the first week of the event.

We now have a Discord server for Seasons of Reading. You can pop in and chat during our events at any time, or even outside of events. We will not be doing live chats, just typing in the text channels. Introduce yourself in the #general channel, and look for the readathon specific channel for the current readathon. Here's the invite link: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA The link is also in the sidebar menu.

Grab the button and spread the word! There’s a grab code in the sidebar or download the image at the top of this post.

Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.
