Spring into #Horror #Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In #SpringHorror #Prizes

We're at the halfway point. Who would have thought just a month ago we would be in the situation we're currently finding ourselves. It's crazy. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and well.

So, how is it going with the reading? Hope everyone is enjoying some good escapist reading. I find horror to be very escapist. Let me know your progress in the comments, or leave a link.

I mentioned a horror movie watch-along in the starting post. I decided on "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home" (based on the novel, Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon) because it's free to watch on YouTube. It's in two parts. I had polls up in the Facebook group and on Twitter, plus a post in the Goodreads group. The two choices were April 17 and 18 or April 24 and 25. The majority over all polls was the April 24/25 dates (yes, I know Dewey's 24 Hour readathon is the 25th, but maybe a nice two hour break will be just what we need). I host the watch-alongs on Slack. It's free to join. Invite link below.

Complete details on the watch-along:

Part 1 - Friday, April 24 at 8:00 pm CST/9:00 pm EST
Part 2 - Saturday April 25 at 8:00 pm CST/9:00 pm EST

Slack invite link - just click the link and sign up. It's free. I'll create a channel (in the left sidebar) for #harvest-home-watch-along

Spring into Horror Prizes

Prize One (One winner)
I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a human rights organization, such as the ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, Planned Parenthood, or another human rights organization of your choice, perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe that all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Prize Two (One winner)
Winner's choice of any book title from the bargain books (these are generally used books) section of Better World Books. They ship internationally (priced at $3.98 or less) OR a $3.00 Amazon eGift card.

Giveaway DetailsThis is a readathon participant only giveaway. To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post (I will give everyone until Tuesday, May 5th at 11:59 pm CST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. We have a total of 2 prizes. This means there will be 2 winners. I will award prizes on a first come, first served basis. I will draw the 2 winners with and email all 2 at the same time. The first person who emails me back with their choice gets that prize. I will mark off the prizes as they are taken. Winners will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

Happy Reading!

Spring into #Horror #Readathon - We're hunkered down...let's read! #SpringHorror

Boy, a lot has changed since I posted the sign-up on March 10. Our world is quite different these days. I hope you are all safe and well. One silver lining. The situation is perfect for a readathon.

So, let's get this party started! I'm thinking we might have one or two horror movie watch-alongs. If we do, I will post about them in the Facebook and Goodreads groups. To make it so everyone can participate, we do our watch-alongs on Sling. Seasons of Reading has a channel over there. It's free to sign up so stay-tuned for news on what we're watching, if we do, and for an invite link to our Sling channel. Now, we shall get some good scary reading in through April 30th. SO ready!

Just remember...the one main "rule" of Spring into Horror is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). Since we are doing a month long, I hope you will indulge the scary a bit more, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all. After you've read your "scary" title (or don't have to read the scary one first), you can read whatever you want in any genre. Novels, novellas, comic books, children's books, non-fiction. Anything goes!

You DO NOT have to participate the entire month. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be an event of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries. Also, Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon will be going on (does anyone know if they're planning on having it?) so that will be a fun addition to our month of reading bliss.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. We no longer use a wrap-up linky and we are now just using the Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post instead of the prize page. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).

Strangely enough, I have not received any prize donations this time around. However, I will be offering a couple of small prizes. I'll share those in our mid-event check-in (no prize page if I'm the only one offering prizes).

Social media hashtag across all platforms - #SpringHorror (you can also use #Readathon).

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment. This is the same linky used for sign-ups so if you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.
