2026 Sci-Fi Summer - Wrap-Up

Another Sci-Fi Summer comes to an end. I hope you were able to get some good reading in this round. Unfortunately, I did not finish any of my books, but still plan to. Reading slump continues...go me! Oops, I forgot I did finish Remote Control, which I listened to on audio.

The linky at the bottom of the post is the same one we've been using for this readathon. You can link to your wrap-up there, or leave a link (or summary) in the comments. Completely up to you, but I do try to get around to see what books everyone read.

We have the High Summer Readathon coming up in August. I will have the sign-up posted soon, and will determine which weekend we will do our 24-Hour readathon during the month. Stay tuned!

Sci-Fi Summer 2026 - Mid-Event Check-In

We're midway through! I hope your reading is going well. I managed to finish Freezing Point and Remote Control (audio) and started Fire & Blood over the weekend. My slump is improving!

Our Junteenth three day readathon starts this Friday at 12:00 am eastern through the end of Sunday. I hope you will join us. If you feel so inclined to read books by black sci-fi or fantasy authors over the weekend, here is a Goodreads list of books. I'm planning to read Dawn by Octavia Butler. There will be a post here the day before the event starts.

Some orders of business...

• We normally have a 24-Hr Readathon during each month-long event, but I decided that since Juneteenth is June 19th, I thought we would have a Juneteenth three day readathon, Friday through Sunday. The black community deserves to be celebrated and now it is particularly important. A focus on black fantasy/sci-fi authors would be cool (but not required). That being said, here's a list of books on Goodreads. Of course, if you have any recommendations not on the list, feel free to share in the comments and/or in the Goodreads/Facebook groups, or in our Discord.

Time for a month of science fiction...and fantasy! As always, a shout out to the person who originally inspired this event...Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room), who is also one of our most loyal participants. Here we are at year 11! I can't believe it has already been that many years! I look forward to this readathon every year. I don't read enough science fiction so this helps me broaden my horizons. It might be the same for you. 👽

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on June 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on June 30th. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about our readathons can be found there.

Since science fiction is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to the genre (often grouped together), if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.

2025 Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

How is the sci-fi (or fantasy) reading going? I'm currently reading Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. Really good. I saw the movie years ago. I'm going to watch it again after I finish the book. I think I'll start Isaac Asimov's Foundation next. Oh, and I'm also reading Slaughterhouse-Five with my book chat group.

Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Time to wrap-up

Another readathon has rushed by! I managed to finish Subhuman, and I'm just about finished with Brave New World, and The Illustrated Man. 

So, how did the reading go for you?

To wrap up, go to the link for the wrap-up form at the end of this post and fill it out, including a link to your wrap-up (whether it's a blog post, a Goodreads shelf, social media status...anything goes, as long as I can see you did indeed participate). You will also indicate if you want a chance at a prize by selecting yes or no in the form. Sci-Fi Summer 2023 - Mid-Event Check-in

How is the sci-fi (fantasy) reading going? On my end, I just finished Subhuman by Michael McBride,and steadily making my way through The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. Finishing up the first half of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World for our read-along over at Gather Together and Read. Hoping to have the first discussion post up over there tomorrow.

This is a readathon participant only giveaway. This is a science fiction (or fantasy) only readathon so any books you read for this event should be in those genres. 

I did not receive any prize donations, but I do offer two prizes each readathon. Information on the main (charity donation) prize is below. I will post about the other small prize I'm offering in the mid-event check-in post at the halfway point of the readathon.

Sci-Fi Summer Readathon 2022 - Boldly go!

As always, a shout out to the person who originally inspired this event...Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room). Here we are at year seven! I can hardly believe it, but I'm so glad I started this. I look forward to it every year. I don't read enough science fiction so this helps me broaden my horizons. It might be the same for you. 👽

Details:

• As with all our readathons, Sci-Fi Summer is also a month long readathon! June 1st at 12:00 am EDT to June 30th 11:59 pm EDT (adjust your time zone accordingly...there's a time zone converter in the sidebar menu).
  
  
• Since science fiction is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to the genre (often grouped together), if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.

• as usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Also, we have our Facebook group, our Facebook page, our Goodreads group, and we're on Instagram.

  You can pop in and chat during our events at any time, or even outside of events. We will not be doing live chats (like Zoom), just typing in the text channels. Introduce yourself in the #general channel, and look for the readathon specific channel for the current readathon.  The link is also in the sidebar menu.
• As always, please refer to the Guidelines page (link also in the sidebar menu) if you have any questions. For any newbies, there are specific guidelines we use for wrapping up and the giveaway. You can always contact me via the contact me tab if you have any questions.

• Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (currently Ukraine relief charities) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize. Hopefully, I will get some prize donations (see above). If I do, I will post the prize page during the first week of the event.

Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Time to wrap-up

Wow! June went by so fast! How did your reading go? Unfortunately, I did not get to Dune, but I did read a scifi/fantasy called The Reincarnationist Papers and a Dystopian novel called Shelter of Leaves by Lenore H. Gay. Both very good.

I will not be hosting Christmas in July at my Christmas blog this year so there won't be a Christmas in July readathon. I have decided to focus on starting my novel in July. Wish me luck!
