2026 Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Commence sign-up!

Time for a month of science fiction...and fantasy! As always, a shout out to the person who originally inspired this event...Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room), who is also one of our most loyal participants. Here we are at year 11! I can't believe it has already been that many years! I look forward to this readathon every year. I don't read enough science fiction so this helps me broaden my horizons. It might be the same for you. 👽

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on June 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on June 30th. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about our readathons can be found there.

Since science fiction is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to the genre (often grouped together), if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.

Some orders of business...

We normally have a 24-Hr Readathon during each month-long event, but I decided that since Juneteenth is June 19th, I thought we would have a Juneteenth three day readathon, Friday through Sunday. The black community deserves to be celebrated and now it is particularly important. A focus on black fantasy/sci-fi authors would be cool (but not required). That being said, here's a list of books on Goodreads. Of course, if you have any recommendations not on the list, feel free to share in the comments and/or in the Goodreads/Facebook groups, or in our Discord.
During the Juneteenth readathon, I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the event starts.
I will post a mid-event check-in here on the blog.

2026 Spring into Horror Readathon - This scary month is over, but the scary continues (mwahahaha)

Another readathon has come to an end. I hope you were able to get some good scary reading in. Unfortunately, I have been in a reading funk since this year started. I'm 11 books behind on my yearly reading goal. Yikes! I'm hoping May will be the turning point for me. That being said, I did start Marla by Jonathan Janz which I'm really enjoying. If you like horror, I highly recommend his books. As stated in the post title, the scary continues for me. Next up...The Siren of Groves Peak by Glenn Rolfe.

The linky at the bottom of the post is the same one we've been using for this readathon. You can link to your wrap-up there, or leave a link (or summary) in the comments. Completely up to you, but I do try to get around to see what books everyone read.

Next month is Sci-Fi Summer (during which you can also read fantasy). I'll post the sign-up by the middle of the month. I hope you will join us! We're going to do a Juneteenth 3-Day Readathon in lieu of a 24-Hour Readathon. A good time to focus on black fantasy/sci-fi authors, though not required.
