Time to close out the High Summer Readathon #HSreadathon

High Summer is at an end. I hope everyone enjoyed the two weeks and, for those who participated, the 48 hour Christmas in July portion at the end. I think we will do that again next year. What do you think? If you didn't meet your goals, don't sweat it. Having fun is the most important thing. 😁

I'd like to thank you all for joining me. Be sure to add your wrap-up link below and please double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You will also need to fill out the form on the prize page if you would like to win a prize. You have until Wednesday, August 2 at 11:59pm central time to add your wrap-up link and to fill out the form on the prize page. I will draw giveaway winners in the following few days after the wrap-up deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from truebookaddict. (Please be sure to note the system of drawing winners in the giveaway details on the prize page).

Now let's have a big round of applause for the authors who so generously donated our prizes. Bravo...and thank you!

Hope to see you next time at the MONTH LONG FrightFall Readathon, coming in October! The button is all ready to go! You can grab the code in the sidebar. As I mentioned previously, I'm going to ask for some help on future readathons by recruiting cheerleaders. If you're not familiar with the term, it basically means you visit participant's posts on their blogs, social media, in our Facebook group, and post words of welcome, encouragement and support. I've discovered that I'm having trouble keeping up on my own. I will do a call out post in early to mid-September on the blog so people can sign up/express interest...and I'll explain how it will work...once I figure out how I want it to work, schedule-wise.

I also wanted to remind you of my upcoming Fall events at my other blogs. In September, during Banned Books Week, I do a week long series of posts. I'm not sure what my direction will be this year, but I do it every year and I don't plan to stop. That will be at my main blog, True Book Addict. At my horror blog, Castle Macabre I will once again be hosting Gothic September  and then Season of the Witch in October. At Gather Together and Read, where the Never-Ending Anne Rice reading challenge is hosted, I will be hosting a read-along of The Mummy in October, in anticipation of the new book (the sequel, Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra) coming out in November (written by Rice and her son, Christopher Rice).

Lots of exciting doings coming this Fall. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons!

Thank you so much for joining me for the readathon. Good luck in the giveaway to all!

48 Hour Christmas in July #Readathon starts now! #HSreadathon

It's time! Gather your Christmas book stack and get ready for some holiday cheer in the middle of this hot, hot summer. I'll tell you...I'm dreaming about snow right about now. I'm a winter girl, I'm not afraid to admit. ⛄

Remember, you don't have to read Christmas books. You can continue on with what you've been reading. A fun idea...if you want to challenge yourself to see how much you can read in the 48 hours.

You do not have to sign up again. This is just a little segue into some different reading during basically the same readathon. lol That might have sounded a bit confusing.

You can also use #ChristmasinJuly on social media in addition to #HSreadathon. This will run midnight central time (7/29) through Sunday 7/30 at 11:59 pm central time. (Use the time zone converter up in the menu if you need to)

Enjoy!

High Summer Read-a-Thon - Mid-Event Check-in #HSreadathon

Are we really at midweek already!? I don't even have to say, "I hope you're getting lots of reading in." I've been lurking in the Facebook group and I'm seeing tons of reading going on. You guys rock! Which makes me feel all the worse that I have not been more participative (I had a big client project earlier in the week, etc.) with interacting, nor reading...and I have not had a chance to visit any of your posts or videos. I'm plannng on stopping by. I'll start working through the list as soon as I finish this post. 😀

I'm thinking about asking for cheerleader volunteers next time (especially since the FrightFall Readathon (October) is a month long), so be thinking if you might like to volunteer or not. It would be a huge help to me. I don't really like to ask for help, but sometimes a person just has to admit they need it.

Just a few reminders...

Don't forget that Rhonda Hopkins has two free books available on Smashwords through the end of July. Her Christmas short story, The Gift and her zombie horror story, Survival. Click here to visit Rhonda's website for the details on how to grab your free eBook(s).

The Christmas in July 48 Hour Readathon starts this Friday at 12:00am central time. If you're not sure what that would be in your time zone, I've placed a link to a handy timezone converter in the menu up top. As stated, the 48 hour readathon will run until the end of High Summer at 11:59pm central time on Sunday (July 30). Remember, you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I know a few of you already are. 🎅

Stop by my Christmas blog, Christmas Spirit. I'm having a Christmas in July event during which I'm sharing various Christmas-y things. I'm putting together a list of Christmas book releases for the coming season. It should be posted over there in a day or two. 🎄

Don't forget to check out the prize page. We have some great prizes donated by some fantasticly generous authors. There's a Google form to be filled out if you want to enter, and be sure to read over the giveaway details so you know how it works. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Share with us in the comments how you're doing, leave a link in the comments, or continue updating on your chosen social media (#HSreadathon) and/or in our Facebook group.

Read on, Readathon Warriors!

WINNER - KATHERINE
Call to Juno: A Tale of Ancient Rome by Elisabeth Storrs  (One audio book - International)

"An elegant, impeccably researched exploration of early Rome and their lesser known enemies, the Etruscans. The torments of war, love, family, and faith are explored by narrators on both sides of the conflict as their cities rush toward a shattering, heart-wrenching show-down. Elisabeth Storrs weaves a wonderful tale!"  ~Kate Quinn, author of The Empress of Rome Saga

Four unforgettable characters are tested during a war between Rome and Etruscan Veii.
Caecilia has long been torn between her birthplace of Rome and her adopted city of Veii. Yet faced with mounting danger to her husband, children, and Etruscan freedoms, will her call to destroy Rome succeed?
Pinna has clawed her way from prostitute to the concubine of the Roman general Camillus. Deeply in love, can she exert her own power to survive the threat of exposure by those who know her sordid past?
Semni, a servant, seeks forgiveness for a past betrayal. Will she redeem herself so she can marry the man she loves?
Marcus, a Roman tribune, is tormented by unrequited love for another soldier. Can he find strength to choose between his cousin Caecilia and his fidelity to Rome?
Who will overcome the treachery of mortals and gods?

“Call to Juno is a stirring saga of war, sacrifice and transcendent love.’  ~M Louisa Locke, author of The Victorian San Francisco Mystery series

“Elisabeth Storrs brings Ancient Rome vividly to life; her skill as a writer is equivalent to a time machine – we are there amid the history and the drama, immersed so deep that in calling to Juno we expect her to answer back…” ~Helen Hollick, author of The Sea Witch Voyages

“With plenty of action and characters you can really root for, Call to Juno is a perfect, wholly satisfying conclusion to Elisabeth Storrs' trilogy. Tales of Ancient Rome is one of the best ancient-historical series I've read in years.” ~Libbie Hawker, author of Daughter of Sand and Stone

“In Call to Juno Elisabeth Storrs tells a vivid story of love and war, honour and revenge set in Ancient Rome. Using a skillful blend of history and drama, and full of characters both heroic and human, Storrs transports readers to that long ago world. Highly recommended.” ~M.K. Tod author of Lies Told in Silence

“Not much is known about the ancient Etruscans but A Tale of Ancient Rome is a vivid and fascinating evocation of their fight for survival against the might of Rome. This is a tale of great love and great hatred, of treachery, courage and honour, told in loving detail by a knowledgeable and practised story-teller.” ~Felicity Pulman, author of The Janna Chronicles

“God cults, the different faces of love and the cruelty of war are among the themes in Elisabeth Storrs’ third powerful novel on the rivalry between the Romans and the Etruscans. A well-researched novel that builds to a memorable and terrifying end.” ~Isolde Martyn, author of The Golden Widows

“Call to Juno is a book for long, delicious savoring.” Judith Starkston, author of Hand of Fire

High Summer Read-a-Thon - Starting Line! #HSreadathon

Here we go! I hope everyone is ready for two weeks of relaxing Summer reading, with a little bit of Christmas in July mixed in! I know I am. I'm going to be busy myself over the next two weeks, as I have a lot of reading to catch up on, I'm working on my book, and other personal stuff involving doctor's appointments and school prep for my sons (they go back August 7th!), but I'm hoping I can squeeze in more reading than normal. Luckily, I listen to audio books in the car. 😁

I have some prizes lined up and I'll have the prize page posted by late Tuesday, or by Wednesday.

Don't forget, during the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

My friend, author Rhonda Hopkins has two of her books on offer for free this month! Her Christmas short story, The Gift (perfect for the Christmas in July 48 hour readathon!) and her zombie horror novel, Survival. Click here to visit Rhonda's page for the details on how to grab your free eBook(s). No strings attached!

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/The True Book Addict (goal post).

I will post a mid-event check in post next Sunday. Our hashtag for the read-a-thon is #HSreadathon ...and don't forget about our Facebook group!

I think that about covers it. Happy Reading!

Pardon the Dust

This post will be cross-posted on all of my sites.

You may not have heard about Photobucket screwing over a ton of people with their new third party image hosting plan. (Read more here: http://nypost.com/2017/07/05/how-photobucket-is-now-shaking-down-its-users/) Basically, it means if you have a free account, you can no longer host your images without paying $400/year! So, all those clever grab codes I make for images and buttons...they have to be fixed with a new link from wherever the images are now being hosted. Luckily, I own two domains on GoDaddy so I get free image storage up to a certain amount and then I can pay extra if I need more (only $1.99/month). But with 7+ blogs/sites, it's going to take me a bit. I hope you will bear with me.

If you have any of my buttons on your site, I'm afraid you will have to delete and then come back by at a later date to grab the new code. There should not be any further problems in future. Fingers crossed.

I hope Photobucket crashes and burns for their underhanded tactics. I mean, I didn't even get an email notifying me!

Sign up for the High Summer Readathon #HSreadathon

It's time to sign up for High Summer...and in case you haven't heard, I have a special treat this year (that is sure to become a tradition). During the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

The official dates are July 17 through July 30, starting at 12:00am Monday the 17th, and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday, the 30th. That's central time (U.S.), but you can adjust your times according to your time zone. Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, non-fiction, and you can even read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Also, Christmas books this time too!  You DO NOT have to participate the entire two weeks. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be two weeks of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBRs.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information regarding rules for our readathons can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page.

I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! (Contact me via the contact tab in the menu).

Our hashtag for social media is #HSreadathon ...and we have our wonderful Facebook group that is always very lively (there is also an access tab in the menu).

Sign up in the linky below. You do not have to do a post now, unless you want to help spread the word (much appreciated). If you don't have a blog, use Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, YouTube. Having a blog is not required. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post (there's also a grab code below the button in the sidebar. Note: the grab code is only for the High Summer button, not for the Christmas in July button).
