The idea for this event was inspired by Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room) when she asked in the comments, "Can we do a sci-fi readathon sometime? I thought to myself, "Why not?" After all, I do host the Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon in between my four other read-a-thons, AND I am sorely behind on my Sci-Fi reading. So, here we are...Sci-Fi Summer!
Details:
- Read-a-Thon dates: Wednesday, June 1 at 12:00am CST until Tuesday, June 7 at 11:59pm CST (adjust your time zone accordingly). I wanted to try out a different day configuration this time.
- Since Sci-Fi is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to science fiction, if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.
- to check in on Twitter, we'll use hashtag #SciFiSummerJune
- as usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, etc. These days, it seems most of our activity goes on in our Facebook group which I love. The interaction in our group is fabulous!
Since this is a spur of the moment event, I'm not sure I will be able to secure any prize donations, but I will offer a small prize from me.
I hope you're as excited as I am! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via the contact tab.

I'm excited for this challenge!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of fantasy on my Kindle and this will give me the kick up the backside I need to get started on it.
ReplyDeleteThis is my least read genre, BUT, I've bought a lot lately, so I'm ready and very excited!
ReplyDeleteI have a few books picked out and ready to go. Your readathons are helping me get to books I have had on my TBR. Lol. I really enjoyed The Spring Into Horror Readathon and am looking forward to this one. I don't go into FB often but I might go in just to join in there during the Readathon. Thanks for hosting these.
ReplyDeleteI finished one of the books I won from Spring Into Horror, (Niedermayer & Hart), and am currently reading another one, (Dishonor Thy Wife). They are both awesome. I'm looking forward to Yosemite Rising. Thanks so much!!!!
So I looked to see what I have that's on my shelves already that would qualify and checked it against a list of sci-fi books and, whoo!, I have several things that will work PLUS Mini-him has The Martian!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the push!
ReplyDeleteLets do this! Cant wait!
ReplyDeleteI have a few sci-fi novels to read so this is great! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to be part of this read-a-thon especially I wasn't able to take part in the spring into horror read-a-thon. I really enjoyed doing the winter respite read-a-thon it helped me get a good start on my year goal of books to read and I hope the ScFi Summer Read-a-thon will do the same.
ReplyDeleteIm really looking forward to this challenge :)
ReplyDeleteThis is very opportunely timed for me! I have 2 fantasy novels and a SF novel sitting on my currently reading shelf that I really want to get through! Plus, there's a readalong for Lev Grossman's The Magicians taking place this month & that one has been sitting on my shelf for a bit now.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Michelle!
This is my first Read-a-Thon and I'm excited it's Science Fiction. It's Finals Week at work, but I decided to try and get a jump start on my summer reading. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJoined in at the last minute and I'm thrilled there's a Read-a-Thon just for SF. I've sent a request to join the Facebook group. In the Linky tool, I pointed to my Facebook account since I'm more likely to post updates there than any place else (my blog is on temporary vacation). Starting off June reading The Forge of God by Greg Bear.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great choice, Elsi! I'm reading THIN AIR,set in the 1970's Naval Intelligence, about the Philadelphia Experiment. Have so much Sci fi I want to read, I set July and September as personal readathon Sci fi cc ha l
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I just got some science fiction books from the library, so I'll definitely join in.
