2025 FrightFall Readathon (and Something Wicked Fall) - Spooky season is here!

It's my favorite time of year! 🎃 I hope you guys are ready for the fun!

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on October 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on October 31st. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about our readathons can be found there.

The one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Giveaways are suspended for now due to financial reasons (though I may bring them back in the future).
There will no longer be a wrap-up deadline since prizes are eliminated...meaning wrap-ups are optional, but it's always nice to see what everyone read.

Some orders of business...

• We have one 24-Hour readathon during each month-long event. The FrightFall 24-Hour event will be an opposite readathon, meaning we will start at 8:00 pm and end the next night at 8:00 pm. This will be on Saturday, October 4th and will end on Sunday, October 5th. Remember...8:00 pm to 8:00 pm Eastern time. I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the 24-Hour event starts. Full details about the 24-Hour readathon events on the Guidelines page.
  Note: Every other 24-Hour event will be an opposite version. I like the timing better myself. If enough people agree, we may start doing all of them that way.

FrightFall has officially been a part of Something Wicked Fall for eight years now. The event runs September/October over at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of Hell House by Richard Matheson through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. The reading schedule is posted on the event post, linked above and below.

Looking ahead to our Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge/Readathon, I just wanted to announce that the Yuletide Spirit blog is now The Mystical Lantern. I wanted to change from a year-round Christmas site to a site that encompasses Halloween and Yuletide seasonally. We will still have our reading challenge/readathon and it will still be called Yuletide Spirit. Stop over and check out the brand new site design here.

2025 High Summer Readathon - Wrap-up

We no longer have a wrap-up deadline since I have eliminated (perhaps temporarily) giveaways. The linky at the bottom of the post is the same one we've been using for this readathon. You can link to your wrap-up there, or leave a link (or summary) in the comments. Completely up to you, but I do try to get around to find out what everyone read.

Today kicks off Something Wicked Fall! The event post is up at Castle Macabre with all the details here. The highlights...a read-along of Richard Matheson's Hell House, all kinds of horror reading and watching...movie and book reviews, and more! Of course, all this will go along nicely with FrightFall coming up in October. I'll have sign-up ready for that soon.

2025 High Summer 24-Hour Readathon - Join us tomorrow!

It's time for another 24-Hour readathon. Are you ready?

We will start at 10:00 am eastern time. Find out what time that is in your time zone by using the time zone converter in the sidebar menu (just click the link).

In case you missed it, I recently posted the Save the Date for Something Wicked Fall which starts in September, and the graphic for FrightFall in October is also in the post here. You may notice that our 24-Hour Readathon during FrightFall will be an Opposite Readathon (starting Saturday night at 8:00 pm Eastern and ending Sunday night at 8:00 pm Eastern). Same concept as Dewey's Reverse 24-Hour Readathon. I just didn't want to steal their terminology. Going forward, a few times per year, our 24-Hour events will be Opposite Readathons (unless enough people weigh in that they prefer the Opposite timing...then we may do them all that way 😁).

2025 High Summer Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

Hope you're getting in some good reading during these mega hot summer days (Northern hemisphere, that is). I haven't had much opportunity to read over the past two weeks. My sons came into town from Tennessee on the 2nd for a ten day visit. I hadn't seen them in person for over two years! We had a ton of fun and I was sad for them going back. It's hard living away from your kids. I struggle with it every day. Anyway, I'm back at reading...currently Mastodon by Steve Stred and Deerskin by Robin McKinley.

Time for some reading during the dog days of summer. It has already been pretty hot this year for Michigan. I'm really hoping it doesn't get any hotter, but you know how July/August can be. I'm up for reading comfortably in the air conditioning and staying hydrated. How about you?

2025 Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - We've reached the end of the galaxy
