2026 Winter's Respite Readathon - Sign up!

Sign up is here! Time for a month of reading while the weather is frightful (if you live in a wintry climate) and to maybe find some respite from the horrors of the world. Nothing better than some comfort reading.

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on February 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on February 28. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about our readathons can be found there.

Giveaways are suspended for now due to financial reasons. There will no longer be a wrap-up deadline since prizes are eliminated...meaning wrap-ups are optional, but it's always nice to see what books were read by everyone.

Our social media hashtag is #wintersrespite
Our social media:
Facebook group
Facebook page
Goodreads group
Instagram
StoryGraph
Discord - this is an invite link. If you're already a member, you should still be able to access the server
(There is a Winter's Respite channel in the Discord channel sidebar).

All links to our social media are also in the sidebar menu.

Some orders of business...
  • We have one 24-Hour readathon during each month-long event. The Winter's Respite 24-Hour event will be on Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 am Eastern time. I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the 24-Hour event starts. Full details about the 24-Hour readathon events on the Guidelines page.

  • I will post a mid-event check-in here on the blog.

  • Grab the button and spread the word! Download the image at the top of this post or from the sidebar.

Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.

2025 Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon - Wrap-Up

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed your festive holiday reading. See you next year for another round.

How did you do on the reading challenge/readathon? Share your wrap up link in the linky below. It's the same linky as the sign-up so just add "wrap-up" when you enter your name, like so "Michelle@truebookaddict-Wrap-up" (you don't have to put a blog name, you can just put your name).

2025 Yuletide Spirit - Time for the 24 in 48 readathon!

Our 24 in 48 readathon starts tonight at 8:00 pm eastern time. Are you ready?

The premise:
We start at 8:00 pm eastern time on Friday and it ends at 8:00 pm eastern time on Sunday. The idea is the try to read for 24 hours during that 48 hour period, but there are no rules. Read as much or as little as you want. It's all for fun. I thought the weekend after Christmas would be the perfect time, since the week between Christmas and the new year always seems like a weird limbo period. What better time? A nice relaxing weekend of reading.

Sadly, I won't be able to read much myself as we're having our family Christmas on Sunday so I have to get ready for that. I'll squeeze in as much as I can.

I hope you all are having happy holidays. Enjoy the readathon!

2025 Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon

Here we are at the holiday season again! I apologize for being so late! It's finally time to sign up for the Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon co-event!

Dates: Monday, November 24 through Wednesday, December 31

Three ways to participate:
  1. Challenge - Pick a level
  2. Readathon - read as much (or as little) as you want
  3. Participate in both!
We're also having a 24 in 48 hours Readathon the weekend of December 26 - 28. I'm all for it!

Regarding the reading of Christmas books, for the readathon, you do not have to read only Christmas books. I am always reading regular genres along with Christmas books during the season. Please do try to read at least one though.

For the reading challenge, these must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore, a book of Christmas short stories or poems, books about Christmas crafts, children's books (we even have a level for them!), etc.

Reading Challenge Levels:
--Candy Cane: read 1 book
--Mistletoe: read 2-4 books
--Christmas Tree: read 5 or 6 books, or more (this is the fanatic level!)

Additional levels:

--Fa La La La Films: watch a bunch or a few Christmas movies...it's up to you!
--Visions of Sugar Plums: read books with your children this season and share what you read

*the additional levels are optional, you still must complete one of the main reading levels above

Important!
I would appreciate it if you would let me know in the comments if you would still like a place to link reviews for the reading challenge. I have discontinued prizes for financial reasons, so reviews are no longer a factor like they were for the giveaway, but if you would still like to link them up, I will add a linky to the review page (at Mystical Lantern) for this year's reviews. Again, just let me know in the comments. Thanks!

Sign up in the linky below. This linky will be the same one on this site and over at The Mystical Lantern. (If you're just now finding out about the name change and redesign of Yuletide Spirit, you can read all about the changes here)No need to sign up both places (though you can leave a comment here and over there if you are indeed participating in both). For this readathon in particular, we will do a wrap-up linky, in keeping with the regular process for the reading challenge.

Final notes:
You can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget the Seasons of Reading Facebook groupFacebook PageGoodreads groupInstagram, StoryGraph..and Discord. The Mystical Lantern also has a Facebook page.

Event hashtag: #YuletideSpirit You can also use #readathon and/or #readingchallenge

2025 FrightFall Readathon - Wrap-Up

How did it go? Did you get some good scary reading done in October? I can't believe it's already over. I'm happy with everything I read though I wish I could have read more. I hope everyone had a fun Halloween.
Thanks for joining in on another readathon!

We no longer have a wrap-up deadline since I have eliminated (perhaps temporarily) giveaways. The linky at the bottom of the post is the same one we've been using for this readathon. You can link to your wrap-up there, or leave a link (or summary) in the comments. Completely up to you, but I do try to get around to find out what everyone read.

Next up we have the Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon which kicks off Thanksgiving week (U.S.) on Monday, November 24th. Full details and sign-up coming soon.

Add your wrap-up link below. After your name, put wrap-up in parentheses beside your name. Example: Michelle (wrap-up).

2025 FrightFall Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

How is the scary reading going? I haven't read as much as I planned, but Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon is this weekend and it's my birthday weekend (today is my birthday🎂🎉) so I'm planning on reading all weekend. Hoping to get a lot of great horror read by the end of the month (like I don't read horror year-round anyway. lol).

Let me know your progress, or leave a link, in the comments.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the readathon. Let me know if you plan to join in on Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon this Saturday.
