2023 Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon

Once again, the holidays are upon us! Time to sign up for the Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge and Readathon co-event!

Dates:  Monday, November 20 through Sunday, December 31
(I'm changing up the end date because I don't know about you, but I'm ready to be finished with holiday reading on January 1st.)

Three ways to participate:
  1. Challenge - Pick a level
  2. Readathon - read as much (or as little) as you want
  3. Participate in both!
Regarding the reading of Christmas books, for the readathon, you do not have to read only Christmas books. I am always reading regular genres along with Christmas books during the season. Please do try to read at least one though. 🎄

For the reading challenge, these must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore, a book of Christmas short stories or poems, books about Christmas crafts, children's books (we even have a level for them!), etc.

Reading Challenge Levels:
--Candy Cane
: read 1 book
--Mistletoe: read 2-4 books
--Christmas Tree: read 5 or 6 books, or more (this is the fanatic level!)

Additional levels:

--Fa La La La Films: watch a bunch or a few Christmas movies...it's up to you!
--Visions of Sugar Plums: read books with your children this season and share what you read

*the additional levels are optional, you still must complete one of the main reading levels above

I will have a review linky posted as a page at the Yuletide Spirit site the day the challenge starts. You will find it in the menu at the top of the blog.

Sign up in the linky below. This linky will be the same one on this site and over at Yuletide Spirit. No need to sign up both places (though you can leave a comment here and over there if you are indeed participating in both). For this readathon in particular, we will do a wrap-up linky, in keeping with the regular process for the reading challenge.

THE PRIZE: The first person to post a review (must be from a book started on or after November 20) in the review linky will win a $15 charitable donation to human rights organization of their choice, such as a Ukraine relief charity, ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, Planned Parenthood, or another human rights organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. Animal rights or rescue organizations are another option. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe that all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Final notes:
You can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget our Facebook group, Facebook Page, our Goodreads group, and our Instagram...and our DiscordYuletide Spirit also has a Facebook page.

2023 FrightFall Readathon - It's over (until next year)

I hope everyone was able to get in some good scary reading. I didn't get in much unfortunately, but I enjoyed what I did read. I'm still reading though, since horror is my favorite genre. Thanks for joining us for another readathon!

To wrap up, go to the link for the wrap-up form at the end of this post and fill it out, including a link to your wrap-up (whether it's a blog post, a Goodreads shelf, social media status...anything goes, as long as I can see you did indeed participate). You will also indicate if you want a chance at a prize by selecting yes or no in the form. Be sure to double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Monday, November 6th at 11:59 pm EST to fill out the form. I will email the winner within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. The prize is listed here on the mid-event check-in page. The form is at the bottom of the post.

The 2023 Yuletide Spirit Reading Challenge & Readathon is coming up this month, November 20 through January 6 (2023), which is co-hosted here at Seasons of Reading and at my Christmas site, Yuletide Spirit. I hope you will join us! Stay tuned for details and sign-up. Check out the button...

That's it! Thanks again for joining in on another readathon!

Also, just a reminder that I pushed the charity prize giveaway to the end of the readathon so if you haven't entered for that yet, be sure to fill the form out here: https://forms.gle/EUmkZyRhXv4Mqnnm6

(If you would like others to visit your wrap-up post, please leave a comment below with the link to your wrap-up, or you can visit participants via the starting line post linky here.)

2023 FrightFall Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

A day past mid-event...my birthday was yesterday so I had no time to post this.

How is it going with the reading? Let me know your progress, or leave a link, in the comments.

In case you missed the posts in the Facebook group/Goodreads group, or the Instagram story, I messed up with the charity giveaway. I did not set the form to "Accepting Responses." Sorry about that. The charity giveaway will now be open until the end of the readathon so be sure to enter on the form here: https://forms.gle/r45bjV4KjzKLJR9y8

PRIZE

The second prize from me is a $5 Amazon e-gift card.

This is a readathon participant only giveaway. To be eligible, you must have signed up, participated and added a link to the official readathon wrap-up post at the end of the readathon (I will give everyone until Monday, November 6th at 11:59 pm EST to complete their wrap-ups). We no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. The Google form link on our wrap-up post is where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, and answer yes/no on whether you want to win a prize or not. I will choose the winner of the above prize by random selection using random.org Winner will be chosen after the wrap-up post deadline (see above).

The Something Wicked Fall read-along of Stephen King's If It Bleeds is still going on. I'll try to have Discussion Three on the third novella in the collection (If It Bleeds) sometime today. That will be posted over at Castle Macabre

This Saturday (10/21) is Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. There is no official sign-up on their website yet, but they have been posting information in their Facebook group and the Goodreads group. Are you planning to participate? I am, and I'm hoping to do some good scary reading ALL day.

That's it for now. Hope you enjoy the rest of the readathon!

2023 FrightFall Readathon - Let's get scary!

It's time! And once again, the readathon is part of Something Wicked Fall at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of If It Bleeds by Stephen King. We are just finishing the second of the four novella collection so there's still time to join us.

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I will be offering my usual couple of prizes (see below to enter the charity donation prize).

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget our Facebook group, Facebook Page, our Goodreads group, and our Instagram...and our Discord. If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will post a mid-event check in post mid-month so be sure to stop by and leave your progress, or a link, in the comments.

Hashtag across all social media is #FrightFall Feel free to also use #Readathon and #SomethingWickedFall

The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, Ukraine relief, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. This giveaway is open internationally. Note: I will not donate to any organization that does not believe all are equal, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.

Charity Giveaway (Google Form):
https://forms.gle/r45bjV4KjzKLJR9y8

2023 FrightFall Readathon (and Something Wicked Fall) - It's spooky time again!

It's my favorite time of year! 🎃 I hope you guys are ready for some scary reading!

We start at 12:00 am eastern time on October 1st and end at 11:59 pm eastern time on October 31st. (There is a handy link to a time zone converter in the sidebar menu.) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding sign up and wrap up, especially in regards to the giveaway.

The one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #FrightFall We have our Facebook group and Facebook Page, and don't forget our Goodreads group and our Instagram. (There are also access tabs in the sidebar menu.) Our Discord is always open. There are channels for FrightFall and Something Wicked Fall in the sidebar. Stop by and chat any time!

Some orders of business...
  • Every readathon, I offer a charity donation prize (to a social justice charity) to one winner. This prize is awarded at the beginning of the readathon. Details on how it works are on the guidelines page. I will also be offering another small prize, $5 Amazon which is awarded after all wrap-ups are in.
  • We use a Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).
  • Grab the button (handy embed code in sidebar, or save image at the top of the post).

FrightFall
has officially been a part of Something Wicked Fall for five years now. The event runs September/October over at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of Stephen King's If It Bleeds, a collection of four novellas, through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. The reading schedule is posted on the event post, linked above and below. The discussion post for the first novella, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, is here

Get all the details for what's going on during Something Wicked Fall here.

Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.

To wrap up, go to the link for the wrap-up form at the end of this post and fill it out, including a link to your wrap-up (whether it's a blog post, a Goodreads shelf, social media status...anything goes, as long as I can see you did indeed participate). Be sure to double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Friday, September 8 at 11:59 pm EDT to fill out the form. I will email the winner within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. The prize is listed here on the mid-event check-in page.

I have not received a response from Michele, who won the charity donation prize at the beginning of the readathon. If she doesn't see this and respond, I will draw a new winner. I will notify you via email.

Today kicks off Something Wicked Fall! The event post is up at Castle Macabre with all the details here. The highlights...a read-along of Stephen King's It It Bleeds, Gothic and horror reading, movie and book reviews, and more! Of course, all this will go along nicely with FrightFall coming up in October. I'll have sign-ups ready for that soon.
