2026 Spring into Horror Readathon - Let's start some spring horror reading!

Time for some spring scares! Let's do this!

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle @ True Book Addict (goals or goal post).

The one main "rule" of Spring into Horror is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #SpringHorror
Our social media:

Instagram
StoryGraph
Discord - this is an invite link. If you're already a member, you should still be able to access the server
(There is a Spring into Horror channel in the Discord channel sidebar).

All links to our social media are also in the sidebar menu.

Some orders of business...
  • We have one 24-Hour readathon during each month-long event. This Spring into Horror we will be having an Opposite 24-Hour Readathon (as we did during FrightFall). I decided to have it the same weekend as Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. I hope everyone will be okay with that. The event will start Friday, April 17 at 8:00pm through Saturday, April 18 at 8:00pm eastern time. I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the 24-Hour event starts. Full details about the 24-Hour readathon events on the Guidelines page.

  • I will post a mid-event check-in here on the blog.
Any questions at all? Leave me a comment, or send me a message via the contact me link in the sidebar menu.

2025 FrightFall Readathon (and Something Wicked Fall) - It's time for scary reading!

Let's get this scarefest started, shall we? Yes!

Remember the one main "rule" of FrightFall is to read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). I hope you will indulge the scary beyond the one book, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Giveaways are suspended for now due to financial reasons (though I may bring them back in the future).
There will no longer be a wrap-up deadline since prizes are eliminated...meaning wrap-ups are optional, but it's always nice to see what everyone read.

Discord - this is an invite link. If you're already a member, you should still be able to access the server
(There is a FrightFall channel in the Discord channel sidebar).

All links to our social media are also in the sidebar menu.

Some orders of business...
  • We have one 24-Hour readathon during each month-long event. The FrightFall 24-Hour event will be an opposite readathon, meaning we will start at 8:00 pm and end the next night at 8:00 pm. This will be this Saturday, October 4th and will end on Sunday, October 5th. Remember...8:00 pm to 8:00 pm Eastern time. I will be doing most of my updates and check-ins on Discord (invite link to our Discord). Discord is free to join and it would be cool to have some lively chats over there. There will be a post here the day before the 24-Hour event starts. Full details about the 24-Hour readathon events on the Guidelines page.
Note: Every other 24-Hour event will be an opposite version. I like the timing better myself. If enough people agree, we may start doing all of them that way.

  • I will post a mid-event check-in here on the blog.

Don't forget about Something Wicked Fall over at Castle Macabre. We are doing a read-along of Hell House by Richard Matheson through the end of October. We started September 1st so there's still time to join in. The reading schedule is posted on the event post, linked above and below. I'll also be sharing some scary good stuff like horror movie reviews and book reviews, and maybe more. I hope you will stop by!

Get all the details for what's going on during Something Wicked Fall here.

And finally, be sure to stop over at The Mystical Lantern (my Halloween and Yuletide blog). I'll be sharing some Halloween fun all month long.

2023 High Summer Readathon - Now we start!

The heat is ON this year in parts of the U.S. Has me so thankful that I moved back to Michigan three years ago. Hopefully, this month of reading can be time to stay inside and read, luxuriating in the air conditioning. lol

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form).

I will post a mid-event check-in post at the halfway point. Our hashtag for the readathon across social media is #HSreadathon The second prize I'm offering will be announced on the mid-event check-in. More on the charity prize below.

Stop by our  Facebook group and our Facebook Page, and our Goodreads group and Instagram. We are also on Discord. Introduce yourself in the #general channel, and look for the readathon specific channel for the current readathon. Here is the invite link if you haven't already joined: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA
(There are also access tabs in the sidebar menu.)

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, Ukraine Relief, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. One quick other order of business. As you know (most of you), September kicks off my scary fall events...Something Wicked Fall, hosted at my horror blog, Castle Macabre (Sept/Oct) which includes the FrightFall Readathon here at Seasons of Reading (Oct). We are going to be doing a Stephen King Read-Along during the event through September and October. We are voting in our Goodreads group between Fairy Tale, Billy Summers, or If It Bleeds. If you're in the group, or want to join, stop by and place your vote. If you're not on Goodreads, you can drop your preference in the comments below and I'll add them to the poll. Here's the link to the Goodreads poll. Last day to vote is August 7th.

2023 Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Boldly GO!

Time to start our science fiction (fantasy) month! Ready?

Since science fiction is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to the genre (often grouped together), if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.

Michelle @ True Book Addict (goals or reading goals).

Prizes - I always give away two prizes...a charity donation (see below) and a small prize at the end. I may have one prize donation from an author as well. Depending on how many prizes we end up with, I will either post a prize page, or I will list the prizes in the mid-event check-in post (details below).

Our social media hashtag is #SciFiJune
Our other social media:
Facebook group
Facebook page
Goodreads group
Instagram
Discord (this is an invite link. If you're already a member, you should still be able to access the server.)

All links to our social media are also in the sidebar menu.

I am no longer active on Twitter. I'm in the process of removing tweets from all my accounts and making the accounts generic (it is recommended to do this rather than delete the account so someone else can't sign up using the same name). I'm on Mastodon at @truebookaddict@mstdn.social and Spoutible at @msmwriter Also, on Instagram @truebookaddict

Win a $15 donation to a social justice charity of your choice!

I will make a $15 donation to the winner's choice of a social justice organization, such as the Ukraine relief, ACLU, Boys and Girls Club, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Amnesty International, It Gets Better, The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, or another social justice organization of your choice (food banks, homeless shelters, animal rights/rescue/shelters would also apply), perhaps your local chapter or a local organization. Don't forget!

Join us at my community reading site, Gather Together and Read for a 1000 Books Project read-along of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Information and reading schedule can be found here.

High Summer Readathon starting line!

It's the height of summer, and the hottest time of year, in my opinion. Hope we can spend some time inside where it's cool and get our read on! Are you ready?

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form).

Prizes
In addition to the charity prize discussed below, I also offer a small prize at the end of the readathon. However, I've had to make a small change. Unfortunately, Better World Books has changed their free shipping policy and will only ship free with orders of a $15 minimum. So I will no longer be offering that prize, but I will now offer an Amazon egift of $5 to the giveway winner. I apologize for the change.
I did not receive any prize donations so the Amazon prize will be the only other prize for the readathon.

I will post a mid-event check in post at the halfway point. Our hashtag for the readathon across social media is #HSreadathon. Check out our Facebook group, Goodreads group and our Instagram...and our Facebook page. If you haven't already, stop by and give us a like. Thanks! (You can also access all our socials via the links in the sidebar menu.) We also have a Discord. If you would like to stop by and chat anytime during the readathon, here’s the invite link: https://discord.gg/e6uAmXtGqA

Sci-Fi Summer #Readathon - Engage! #SciFiJune

Time for a fun month of science fiction reading (or fantasy, if that's your poison)!

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget to interact with us in our groups on Facebook and Goodreads, and we're also on Instagram! If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will be posting a mid-event check-in here, and I will do my best to interact across social media.

I have received a couple of awesome prize donations from a very generous author, and I'll also be offering a couple of prizes, as usual. I'll have the prize page posted by the end of the first week.
Social media hashtag across all platforms - #SciFiJune (you can also use #Readathon).

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab in the menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment. This is the same linky used for sign-ups so if you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post).
Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.

#ChristmasinJuly #Readathon - Commence festive reading!

It's time for the four day Christmas in July Readathon, today through Monday July 15 (today at 12:00 am through Monday 11:59 pm Central Time).

Are you ready? Are you sticking with strictly Christmas reading, or are you going to mix it up?

This is a short and sweet starting line post. I'm not going to have a wrap up form for this short readathon. Instead, we will just use the same linky we used for sign up, starting line, and wrap up. Just place your name with each link and add the appropriate title, like so: Michelle @TrueBookAddict - Wrap Up (or starting line).

Prize
I'm offering one Christmas book of your choice (one winner) from Better World Books ($5.00 or less) to everyone who participates. They ship free internationally so anyone can win. (Please keep in mind these are used print books.)

High Summer Read-a-Thon - Starting Line! #HSreadathon

Here we go! I hope everyone is ready for two weeks of relaxing Summer reading, with a little bit of Christmas in July mixed in! I know I am. I'm going to be busy myself over the next two weeks, as I have a lot of reading to catch up on, I'm working on my book, and other personal stuff involving doctor's appointments and school prep for my sons (they go back August 7th!), but I'm hoping I can squeeze in more reading than normal. Luckily, I listen to audio books in the car. 😁

I have some prizes lined up and I'll have the prize page posted by late Tuesday, or by Wednesday.

Don't forget, during the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

My friend, author Rhonda Hopkins has two of her books on offer for free this month! Her Christmas short story, The Gift (perfect for the Christmas in July 48 hour readathon!) and her zombie horror novel, Survival. Click here to visit Rhonda's page for the details on how to grab your free eBook(s). No strings attached!

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/The True Book Addict (goal post).

I will post a mid-event check in post next Sunday. Our hashtag for the read-a-thon is #HSreadathon ...and don't forget about our Facebook group!

I think that about covers it. Happy Reading!

Spring into Horror #Readathon - Let's go! #SpringHorror

Here we go! Two weeks of scary (or kind of scary) reading. 😱 I don't know about you, but I'm loving the two week format, AND I'm looking forward to Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon going on at the very end!

Just a reminder...the one main "rule" of Spring Into Horror is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the week...anything goes! Read more horror, or go in for less heart jolting fare.

I have a few prizes lined up donated from some generous authors, and me, of course. 😀

I will post a mid-event check in post on Sunday. Please note, I changed our hashtag for social media. It is now just #SpringHorror If you're on Facebook, be sure to stop by our group.

I think we're all set. Let's dig in and have a great time reading!

Sunday from 12 to 1pm CST

At other odd times on Twitter, we might even have some reading sprints throughout the week.  There won't be any prizes if/when we do, but you will get bragging rights.  Just remember to have fun this week.  Again, my read-a-thon credo is "a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries."  I have done away with mini-challenges so we can focus more on the reading, but please do stop by and visit your fellow read-a-thon-ers if you get a chance...and again, we will also be on Twitter for social interaction.  =O)

PRIZES/GIVEAWAYS
I will have the prize and giveaway page posted during the day on Monday so come back here to find it.  I will also have easy access links at the top of the blog.  There are going to be couple of easy mini-challenges with prizes hosted by two of our participants.  I will indicate next to the person if the challenge is live or not.

Laura at Book Snob  LIVE NOW

Okay, I think that's about it.  I hope you all have fun this week.  I will be posting my updates at my blog, The True Book Addict, so stop by and visit me.  Happy Reading!
