#FrightFall #Readathon - Wrap up #SomethingWickedFall

Our scary month of reading is now officially over (although I never stop reading scary. lol). As always, it flew by!

I hope everyone enjoyed FrightFall and that you were able to get a lot of reading done. Even if you only got a little reading in, like me, it's still an accomplishment. So, pat yourselves on the back! Not sure what you thought about the pre and post 48 hour readathons, but I'm thinking to forego them next time. It was a bit more work for me. However, I think we will still have a 48 hour kickoff readathon for Castle Macabre's Something Wicked This Fall Comes every year (yes, I plan to continue that event yearly). I'm considering shortening the name to its hashtag incarnation: Something Wicked Fall. What do you think?

Another one comes to a close. It went by so fast and I'm not ready for it to be over. (Like I don't read horror all the time anyway. lol) Of course, there are always readathons just around the corner. Christmas Spirit (Christmas & Scary) #Readathon is at an end #CSReadathon

It seems our readathon has come to an end. I hope everyone was able to get in some good holiday...and scary...reading. I liked this added element this year. I hope you did too. I will probably continue the tradition next year.

Now on to upcoming events and news...

I put up a poll in the Facebook group regarding making all four of the seasonal readathons a month long. I have to say, I really like the month long format. It's so low key...no pressure. Not surprisingly, the majority of voters chose "Yes," followed closely by "fine either way." (If you would like to view the poll, click here. You may need to have a Facebook account to see it. I'm not sure).

So, with that consensus, January's Winter's Respite, April's Spring into Horror, July's High Summer, and of course, October's FrightFall will all have the month long format. Woot! Also, you will see below that the Christmas Spirit Readathon is now two weeks and so SciFi Summer in June will also now be two weeks long.

The Christmas Spirit Readathon is going to have a twist this year! It's going to be a Christmas and Scary Readathon. What does that mean? Well, you can read Christmas, or you can read scary, or you can read both. For example, A Christmas Carol could also be labeled as scary/spooky because of the ghosts. Dickens also wrote other spooky Christmas tales (check his "Christmas Books"). However, don't think your scary has to have a Christmas theme. You can read non-holiday scary, or you can read a Christmas themed mystery (which can sometimes be scary), or you can choose all Christmas books. It's entirely up to you! I will have sign ups for the readathon and the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge (hosted at my Christmas blog, Christmas Spirit) posted by next week...hopefully.

As I mentioned previously, I'm going to ask for some help on future readathons by recruiting cheerleaders. If you're not familiar with the term, it basically means you visit participant's posts on their blogs, social media, in our Facebook group, and post words of welcome, encouragement and support. I've discovered that I'm having trouble keeping up on my own. I will do a call out post in early to mid-September on the blog so people can sign up/express interest...and I'll explain how it will work...once I figure out how I want it to work, schedule-wise.

I also wanted to remind you of my upcoming Fall events at my other blogs. In September, during Banned Books Week, I do a week long series of posts. I'm not sure what my direction will be this year, but I do it every year and I don't plan to stop. That will be at my main blog, True Book Addict. At my horror blog, Castle Macabre I will once again be hosting Gothic September  and then Season of the Witch in October. At Gather Together and Read, where the Never-Ending Anne Rice reading challenge is hosted, I will be hosting a read-along of The Mummy in October, in anticipation of the new book (the sequel, Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra) coming out in November (written by Rice and her son, Christopher Rice).

Lots of exciting doings coming this Fall. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons!

Some news that came about this read-a-thon. Shaunesay @ The Space Between put a bee in my bonnet over in the Facebook group about extending FrightFall for the whole month. While I couldn't really do it this year, that bee was buzzing so I put the poll out to the group. How about making FrightFall a month long next year? And guess what...the votes were overwhelmingly YES! So next year we will be going the whole month. Yay! I may have to get a helper or two to assist me in visiting blogs, but other than that, I think it's a great idea. I generally read scary all October anyway. Win!

Up next, we have the Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon which will be November 21 - 27. The read-a-thon helps kick off my yearly Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge, hosted at my Christmas blog, which runs from November 21 through Twelfth Night, January 6, 2017. Another read-a-thon has come to an end. Sad times. Now we must wait until FrightFall in October (although I'm sure there will be other read-a-thons around the blogosphere...I hope so).

Well, it has come to an end and I missed it all. I started getting sick last Sunday and progressively became worse as the days went by. I finally went to the doctor on Thursday and found out I have the flu. Unfortunately, my reading was scarce at best and I'm still not 100 percent. The doctor said it could last 10 days and then I'll still be weak. What a joy. I'd like to thank everyone who wished me well on Facebook and in our Facebook group. Much appreciated.

Finally...a wrap up post. I'm so sorry for being MIA for the read-a-thon this year. As some of you have seen in the Facebook group, I haven't been having a good go of it lately. Work and real life problems have been especially nasty and while I'm still trying to stay positive and carry on, as I always do, I'm utterly exhausted in the process.
