Spring into Horror #Readathon - Time for a scary spring kickoff! #SpringHorror

Here we go...off and running!

Remember, the one main "rule" of Spring into Horror is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I have some nice scary prizes lined up from Sinister Grin Press and Erin Al-Mehairi, and there may be more to come. Of course, I'll be offering a couple of prizes myself. Also, Sinister Grin Press is making possible free eBook ARCs of Jason Parent's new horror novel, They Feed for participants to read during the readathon. I posted about it in our Facebook group, but if you're not on Facebook, contact me via the contact tab in the menu and I'll get your email address to Erin so she can send you the book. Here's the cover and the synopsis:

The night uncovers all we wish not to see.

A troubled man enters a dusky park before sunset. A young woman follows, hidden in shadow. Both have returned to the park to take back something the past has stolen from them, to make right six long years of suffering, and to find justice or perhaps redemption—or maybe they'll
settle for some old-fashioned revenge.

But something evil is alive and awake in those woods, creatures that care nothing for human motivations. They’re driven by their own insatiable need: a ravenous, bottomless hunger.

The campgrounds are full tonight, and the creatures are starving. Before the night is over, they will feed.

An unrelenting tale of terror from Jason Parent, acclaimed author of
People of the Sun and What Hides Within.

Also, on the prize front...one of my favorite historical fiction authors, Robert Stephen Parry, is offering a choice of one of his books in print and it's international!

I'll have the official prize page posted hopefully by midweek in the coming week. Stay tuned!

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget to interact in our Facebook group! If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will be posting weekly check-ins on Saturdays so be sure to stop by and leave progress, or a link, in the comments of those posts.

Social media hashtag across all platforms - #SpringHorror (you can also use #Readathon)

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment. The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky. Sign-ups are open through Friday, April 27 at 11:59pm CDT.

Spring into Horror #Readathon - Time to sign up! #SpringHorror

Welcome to the official sign up for the Spring into Horror Readathon! All our regular seasonal readathons are now a month long so Spring into Horror runs for the entire month of April. A month of horror...I'm so in! We start at 12:00 am on April 1 and end at 11:59 pm on April 30. Times are set for the central time zone so adjust your times accordingly (you can use the link to the time zone converter in the sidebar menu).

Just remember...the one main "rule" of Spring into Horror is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). Since we are doing a month long, I hope you will indulge the scary a bit more, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all. After you've read your "scary" title (or before...you don't have to read the scary one first), you can read whatever you want in any genre. Novels, novellas, comic books, children's books, non-fiction. Anything goes!

You DO NOT have to participate the entire month. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be an event of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries. Also, Dewey's 24 Hour readathon will fall on one of the weekends so that will be a fun addition to our month of reading bliss.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page. The form will now have a required field for you to enter the link to your wrap-up post.

As is typical, I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book(s)! (Contact me using the contact form link in the sidebar menu).

Our hashtag for social media is #SpringHorror Also, don't forget about our Facebook group. You can also access via the link in the sidebar menu.

Sign up in the linky below. You do not have to do a post now, unless you want to help spread the word (much appreciated). If you don't have a blog, use Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, YouTube...or any social media. Having a blog is not required. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post (there's also a grab code below the button in the sidebar).

Winter's Respite #Readathon - Time to start! #WintersRespite

Oh my goodness! Can you believe I forgot to post the starting line. What!? Sorry, guys!

So, we're already underway. A month of blissful winter reading! It is freezing here in Tennessee this year. Perfect weather for staying indoors and reading, reading, reading. 😀

Unfortunately, I didn't receive any prize donations (unless some come in later in the readathon), but there will be a couple of prizes from me. I will set up a prize page soon. Remember, a wrap-up is required to win a prize. This means that the Google form on the prize page will now have a required field for you to enter the link to your wrap-up post.

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab in the sidebar menu, or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/The True Book Addict (goal post).

I will post a mid-event check in post around the middle of the month. Our hashtag for social media is #WintersRespite ...and don't forget about our Facebook group!

That's it! Happy Winter Reading!

#CSReadathon (Christmas and Scary) It's mid-event...and prize update! #Readathon

Just wanted to do a quick mid-event (a little past) check in. How are you doing? I haven't been doing too hot, but we still have almost a week so hopefully I'll get more reading in. I did listen to Hercule Poirot's Christmas on audio and I finished another book I've been reading for review, which I highly recommend...The Murderer's Maid by Erika Mailman.

News about prizes

Today is Giving Tuesday so I've decided to go ahead and pick a winner for my charity prize of a donation to an organization dedicated to helping those in need. For instance, Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, Heifer International, etc. I'm making a $20 donation in the winner's name, and since most charities are doubling (or tripling) donations today, that will be a $40 to $60 donation! I will draw from the sign up/starting line list (and, of course, double check participation). Be watching your email, Twitter and/or the Facebook group to see if you're a winner.

Rhonda Hopkins has generously donated an eBook copy and an audio copy of her books, Survival and The Gift. That's four winners! I will draw for these prizes at the end of the readathon.

Some days, the only plan is survival…

When Sarah escapes from her brutal abductors, she promises to return to rescue her twin sister, but with the walking dead invading Fort Worth, TX, she is forced to rely on a competitive coworker who made her work life hell for years. With her coworker weakened by cancer treatments, her sister still imprisoned, and zombies looking for an easy meal, Sarah’s only plan, if she can pull it off, is Survival.

SURVIVAL is a 14,000 word short story.

Excerpt:

Sarah Jamison's gaze met her twin's fear-filled blue eyes. "I—"

"It's no use. The cuff is too tight. You're going to have to leave me." Dana put her free hand on Sarah's, stilling their frantic motions.

"No. I won't leave you. Maybe I can . . ." She turned, taking in the empty basement—the cement walls, exposed pipes, and her sister handcuffed to one of the metal cylinders. A small amount of light trickled in through the one lone window, but there was nothing she could use as a weapon. Unless...

She strode over to the dangling pipe from which she had managed to extricate herself earlier. Grabbing the unattached end, she tried wresting it clear of its fittings, her own wrist dangling handcuffs which clinked against the metal with each pull. Rust and time made it impossible to remove.

"Sarah—"

"No." Tears ran down her face. "I can't leave you, Dana."

"You have to. It's the only way we're both getting out of here. You have to go for help."

Sarah knelt beside her sister who reached out and wiped her thumb across her cheek, brushing the tears aside.

"I'll be okay until you get back. I won't give them any excuse to throw me out to those . . . ." Dana choked back the word they had both been avoiding, choosing another instead. "Creatures."

Sometimes, the best gifts are unexpected…

When workaholic Robert Chalmer’s wife leaves to take care of her sick mother for two weeks, he is left with all the responsibility… including his seven-year-old daughter. With Christmas fast approaching, Robert must find a way to reconnect with what is most important in his life, or risk losing it forever.

THE GIFT is a 7300 word heart-warming short story set in Fort Worth, TX about family, love, and second chances.

About the author
Best-selling and award-winning author, Rhonda Hopkins, has learned firsthand that truth is stranger than fiction. Her two decades of experience as an investigator provide her characters with a depth and realism that gives truth a run for its money. Having come in contact with the best and the worst that society has to offer, Rhonda's imagination is filled with story ideas. Rhonda writes Horror, Suspense, Paranormal, and YA Urban Fantasy.

I hope everyone is enjoying the readathon! Be watching because the sign up for Winter's Respite Readathon, now all month long in January, will be posted this week.

Christmas Spirit 2017 (Christmas & Scary) #Readathon - Sign up! #CSReadathon

We are once again kicking off the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge over at Christmas Spirit, with the annual Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon...and it's now two weeks long!

The Christmas Spirit Readathon has a twist this year! It's a Christmas and Scary Readathon. Personally, I read scary (horror) books all year round, but I know many people reserve that kind of reading to October. But that's just ONE month! So, I decided to create this twist to give people the excuse to read scary for at least a couple more weeks (if no more!).

What does this mean? Well, you can read Christmas, or you can read scary, or you can read both. For example, A Christmas Carol could also be labeled as scary/spooky because of the ghosts. Dickens also wrote other spooky Christmas tales (check his "Christmas Books"). However, don't think your scary has to have a Christmas theme. You can read non-holiday scary, or you can read a Christmas themed mystery (which can sometimes be scary), or you can choose all Christmas books. It's entirely up to you!

Details:
  • Read-a-Thon dates: Monday, November 20 at 12:00am CDT until Sunday, December 3 at 11:59pm CDT (adjust your time zone accordingly...there's a time zone converter in the blog menu)
  • You do not have to be signed up for the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge to participate (but I sure would love for you to join us!)
  • I am not requiring that you read only Christmas/holiday books during the read-a-thon, but I hope you will pick up at least one holiday tale, even if it's just to read some children's books with your kids or some holiday short stories...and perhaps some scary fare...
  • to check in on social media, we'll use hashtag #CSreadathon
  • as usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. AND interact with us in our Facebook group.

If you're interested in joining us for the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge, which runs all season long, you can do so at my Christmas blog, Christmas Spirit. Would love to have you!

Readathon prize:

Since it's the Season of Giving, our prize this year will be a donation to an organization dedicated to helping those in need. For instance, Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, Heifer International, etc. I will make a $20 donation in the winner's name. This is open internationally.

Hope I haven't forgotten anything. If you have any questions or notice something I've left out, please feel free to contact me via the sidebar menu.

#FrightFall #Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In

Are we really at mid-event already!? I've been interacting in the Facebook group and I know Steven Karalash (Mystery Night Owl) has been helping me with some cheerleading. Thank you, sir! I have not had much of a chance to visit many blogs. I crammed my work into the early part of the week last week so I wouldn't have to do any work on the weekend, which was my birthday weekend. I had a fun time celebrating this weekend, but it took away from visiting blogs and reading too (for the most part). Honestly though, I don't think I'm doing too shabbily this time...and I'm enjoying all the scary reads. And look what my mom got me for my birthday! Although unfortunately, I won't be able to pick the book up to read until next month (hopefully).

I hope everyone is getting lots of good reading in. I think this month long format is smashing. I'm halfway tempted to make all my seasonal readathons a month long. Would that be excessive? lol

Don't forget to check out the prize page. There are probably going to be some additions to the prizes so stay tuned on that.

Share your updates in the comments, or leave a link to your update post on your blog or social media.

Happy continued FrightFall reading!

#FrightFall #Readathon - Let's get this month of scary underway!

And off we go...into the spooky forest! I'm SO ready for this. How about you?

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

Oddly enough, I did not get many prize donations this time. I did have a couple of generous authors donate book prizes, and I will be offering a couple of prizes myself. Everyone here knows that we like to make this about the reading anyway. I'll have the prize page posted by the end of this week. There will be a tab at the top of the blog for easy access.

I had asked for volunteers to help me with cheerleading duties. Steven has awesomely volunteered. If anyone else would like to, please send me a message via the contact form, or leave a comment with your email address.

Social media hashtag across all platforms - #FrightFall

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment. The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky. Sign-ups are open through Friday, October 27 at 11:59pm CDT.

Time to close out the High Summer Readathon #HSreadathon

High Summer is at an end. I hope everyone enjoyed the two weeks and, for those who participated, the 48 hour Christmas in July portion at the end. I think we will do that again next year. What do you think? If you didn't meet your goals, don't sweat it. Having fun is the most important thing. 😁

I'd like to thank you all for joining me. Be sure to add your wrap-up link below and please double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You will also need to fill out the form on the prize page if you would like to win a prize. You have until Wednesday, August 2 at 11:59pm central time to add your wrap-up link and to fill out the form on the prize page. I will draw giveaway winners in the following few days after the wrap-up deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from truebookaddict. (Please be sure to note the system of drawing winners in the giveaway details on the prize page).

Now let's have a big round of applause for the authors who so generously donated our prizes. Bravo...and thank you!

Hope to see you next time at the MONTH LONG FrightFall Readathon, coming in October! The button is all ready to go! You can grab the code in the sidebar. As I mentioned previously, I'm going to ask for some help on future readathons by recruiting cheerleaders. If you're not familiar with the term, it basically means you visit participant's posts on their blogs, social media, in our Facebook group, and post words of welcome, encouragement and support. I've discovered that I'm having trouble keeping up on my own. I will do a call out post in early to mid-September on the blog so people can sign up/express interest...and I'll explain how it will work...once I figure out how I want it to work, schedule-wise.

I also wanted to remind you of my upcoming Fall events at my other blogs. In September, during Banned Books Week, I do a week long series of posts. I'm not sure what my direction will be this year, but I do it every year and I don't plan to stop. That will be at my main blog, True Book Addict. At my horror blog, Castle Macabre I will once again be hosting Gothic September  and then Season of the Witch in October. At Gather Together and Read, where the Never-Ending Anne Rice reading challenge is hosted, I will be hosting a read-along of The Mummy in October, in anticipation of the new book (the sequel, Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra) coming out in November (written by Rice and her son, Christopher Rice).

Lots of exciting doings coming this Fall. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons!

Thank you so much for joining me for the readathon. Good luck in the giveaway to all!

High Summer Read-a-Thon - Starting Line! #HSreadathon

Here we go! I hope everyone is ready for two weeks of relaxing Summer reading, with a little bit of Christmas in July mixed in! I know I am. I'm going to be busy myself over the next two weeks, as I have a lot of reading to catch up on, I'm working on my book, and other personal stuff involving doctor's appointments and school prep for my sons (they go back August 7th!), but I'm hoping I can squeeze in more reading than normal. Luckily, I listen to audio books in the car. 😁

I have some prizes lined up and I'll have the prize page posted by late Tuesday, or by Wednesday.

Don't forget, during the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

My friend, author Rhonda Hopkins has two of her books on offer for free this month! Her Christmas short story, The Gift (perfect for the Christmas in July 48 hour readathon!) and her zombie horror novel, Survival. Click here to visit Rhonda's page for the details on how to grab your free eBook(s). No strings attached!

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/The True Book Addict (goal post).

I will post a mid-event check in post next Sunday. Our hashtag for the read-a-thon is #HSreadathon ...and don't forget about our Facebook group!

I think that about covers it. Happy Reading!

It's time to sign up for High Summer...and in case you haven't heard, I have a special treat this year (that is sure to become a tradition). During the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

The official dates are July 17 through July 30, starting at 12:00am Monday the 17th, and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday, the 30th. That's central time (U.S.), but you can adjust your times according to your time zone. Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, non-fiction, and you can even read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Also, Christmas books this time too!  You DO NOT have to participate the entire two weeks. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be two weeks of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBRs.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information regarding rules for our readathons can be found there.

I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! (Contact me via the contact tab in the menu).

Sci-Fi Summer Readathon - Starting Post #SciFiSummerJune

SciFi Summer starts now (or it started 25 minutes ago)! I'm excited! Hope you are too. 👽

Here are the details again from the sign up post:

Details:
  • Read-a-Thon dates: Thursday, June 1 at 12:00am CDT until Wednesday, June 7 at 11:59pm CDT (adjust your time zone accordingly).
  • Since Sci-Fi is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to science fiction, if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.
  • to check in on social media, we'll use hashtag #SciFiSummerJune
  • as usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, etc. These days, it seems most of our activity goes on in our Facebook group which I love. We have such a great community over there!

I'm offering a couple of prizes. Our mid-week check in on Sunday will also be the prize page this time out.

That's it! Good luck and have fun. I'm pretty excited to finally be focusing on some Sci-Fi reading. Long neglected.

It's back! Sci-Fi Summer Read-a-Thon #SciFiSummerJune

I will always owe the inspiration for this event to Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room)...and so, we're back for our second year!

Details:
  • Read-a-Thon dates: Thursday, June 1 at 12:00am CDT until Wednesday, June 7 at 11:59pm CDT (adjust your time zone accordingly). We do a different day configuration (rather than starting on a Monday and ending on a Sunday) to go along with the weirdness of Sci-Fi. 👽
😍 We have a great community over there...and it's not just during readathons. Everyone should feel free to post in there any time.
As with the Christmas Spirit Readathon, I usually do not secure prize donations, but I will be offering a couple of prizes from me.

I hope you're as excited as I am that we are continuing this tradition! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via the contact tab, or hit me up in the Facebook group.

Spring into Horror #Readathon - Let's go! #SpringHorror

Here we go! Two weeks of scary (or kind of scary) reading. 😱 I don't know about you, but I'm loving the two week format, AND I'm looking forward to Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon going on at the very end!

Just a reminder...the one main "rule" of Spring Into Horror is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the week...anything goes! Read more horror, or go in for less heart jolting fare.

I have a few prizes lined up donated from some generous authors, and me, of course. 😀

I will post a mid-event check in post on Sunday. Please note, I changed our hashtag for social media. It is now just #SpringHorror If you're on Facebook, be sure to stop by our group.

I think we're all set. Let's dig in and have a great time reading!
