#FrightFall #Readathon - Wrap up #SomethingWickedFall

Our scary month of reading is now officially over (although I never stop reading scary. lol). As always, it flew by!

I hope everyone enjoyed FrightFall and that you were able to get a lot of reading done. Even if you only got a little reading in, like me, it's still an accomplishment. So, pat yourselves on the back! Not sure what you thought about the pre and post 48 hour readathons, but I'm thinking to forego them next time. It was a bit more work for me. However, I think we will still have a 48 hour kickoff readathon for Castle Macabre's Something Wicked This Fall Comes every year (yes, I plan to continue that event yearly). I'm considering shortening the name to its hashtag incarnation: Something Wicked Fall. What do you think?

Remember, our process has changed for wrap-ups. No more linky for wrap-up posts. Fill out the form below and indicate if you want a chance at a prize by selecting yes or no. Also, double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Monday, November 5 at 11:59 pm CDT to fill out the form. I will email the winners within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. (Prize page is here)

Looking forward to Thanksgiving week (USA) when we have the Christmas Spirit Readathon for two weeks...November 19 through December 2. Sign ups will go up within the week so stay tuned.

If you write in addition to reading (and if just might be participating in NaNoWriMo), I'm hosting a two month long writeathon over at my writing blog. The event is Sit Down and Write 10. You can check out all the details here.

Once again, thank you for joining me and I hope to see you next time.

(If you would like others to visit your wrap-up post, please leave a comment below with the link to your wrap-up, or you can visit participants via the starting line post linky here.)

#FrightFall #Readathon - Mid-Event Check-In #SomethingWickedFall

A few days late with this check-in...sorry! My sister came into town last week for my big 5-0 birthday weekend (my birthday was Monday) so it was a whirlwind of getting ready for her to come, and then spending as much time visiting as possible. Of course, as luck would have it, I ended up coming down with some weird stomach thing while she was here. Still not back to 100 percent. Blah. Anyway, as you can imagine, my reading suffered, along with other obligations.

Updates:

The prize page is up HERE.

The second and third discussions for Something Wicked This Way Comes will be combined and posted this Sunday, October 21 at Castle Macabre.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon is THIS weekend! Sign up here.

Something Wicked This Way Comes movie watch-along, October 27th at 9pm CT/10pm ET. We will interact while watching on the event page here.

Post-Readathon - October 31/November 1

So, how is your reading going? Feel free to add an update in the comments, or link to an update somewhere online. Hope this month of scary reading is really shaping up nicely for you all.

THEY’RE BIGGER
Deep in the sewers of New York City, the rat population is growing. Dr. Randolph Finch is determined to break the cycle. His new rodenticide, Degenesis, doesn’t kill rats. It sterilizes them from reproducing. But nothing adapts faster than a New York rat . . .
THEY’RE SMARTER
City exterminators and soon-to-be divorced Chris and Benita Jackson think they know how these rats think. They know how rats breed. And they fear that Degenesis has only made these rats stronger. More aggressive. More intelligent. And more ravenous than ever . . .
TONIGHT’S DINNER SPECIAL: US
After a noticeable surge in rat den activity, the Jacksons witness something strange. Without warning, the rats disappear—only to reassemble in a massive lair beneath Grand Central Station. Millions upon millions of them. Working together. Operating as a hive mind. Feasting on the flesh of the homeless below—and planning their all-out attack on the unsuspecting humans above . . .

WINNERS - MALLORY,
Child Eater by Tiffany Higgins (writing as Tifanne Messer)  (1 2 print copies - US only)

Plagued by memories of an abnormal childhood, Tabitha devotes her life to chasing the thing that destroyed her life as she knew it. She takes on as many missing children cases as she can, hoping to reunite families so they won't have to suffer as she has. Her mother wants her to "meet a nice boy, settle down and raise a family." Tabitha scoffs at the mere idea. Five year old Alice White is missing. Her room was left in shambles. Nothing about this small town or its haunting woods is normal. Is the "Child Eater" real or merely a story told by parents to keep their children out of the woods. Alice's case strangely parallels the only other missing child case the town has ever reported, but that was thirty years ago. What could they possibly have in common? David Matherson is a local contractor. He just bought a house in town and he and his crew are fixing it up. He wasn't looking to get involved with a woman or with a missing child, but somehow he finds himself in the middle of the mix. Will Tabitha find Alice in time? Can she solve the mystery of the "Child Eater" and bring Alice back home where she belongs?

Author bio:

Tiffany Higgins is an award winning multi genre author of fiction. She’s a wife, mother, and home chef. She loves researching almost as much as she loves writing and has found a way to combine these two loves into her current novel, "Once Upon a Time in Iowa." "I Love the Changing Seasons" won the KART Kids Book List Award for Creative Storytelling in 2013. She also authored two other picture books, an illustrated middle grade chapter book, and a mystery-thriller (under the pen name Tifanne Messer). Tiffany’s love of research and a quest for her own family history led her to her current novel, "Once Upon a Time in Iowa." The characters are based on her own ancestors, who settled in Calhoun township, Iowa in the 1860’s. When she’s not writing, Tiffany enjoys reading from a wide variety of genres, spending time with her family, and cooking. She finds cooking to be therapeutic. She especially loves creating new recipes for her family.

#FrightFall #Readathon - Starting line! #SomethingWickedFall

The pre-readathon has come to an end and FrightFall is officially underway! I don't know about you, but I'm excited. I have a ton of scary reads lined up and movies and shows to watch...can I just say "Halloween" and the Netflix series "The Haunting of Hill House"!!!??? Not to mention our read-along of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes and our watch-along at the end of the month (details just below)!

This year, our FrightFall is part of my Something Wicked this Fall Comes event at Castle Macabre. During the readathon, we are doing a read-along of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes and a watch-along of the movie on October 27. All the details for the read-along/watch-along can be found here. (I'm also adding a link in the sidebar menu so you can easily access the reading/discussion schedule.)

Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the month? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I did not get many prize donations this time. I did have a couple of generous authors donate book prizes, and I will be offering a couple of prizes myself. Everyone here knows that we like to make this about the reading anyway. I'll have the prize page posted as soon as I can. Hopefully, by the end of this week. There will be a link in the sidebar menu for easy access. Of course, there's always a chance I might get more prize offers since it is a month long event. We shall see!

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND don't forget our Facebook group, our Goodreads groupand our Instagram. If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I will post a mid-event check in post around the middle of the month so be sure to stop by and leave progress, or a link, in the comments.

Hashtag across all social media is #FrightFall  Feel free to also use #SomethingWickedFall

The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky.

#FrightFall #Readathon - Time to sign up! #SomethingWickedFall

Fall is here! And yes, I'm really late with this sign-up post. So sorry! October is right around the corner and you know what that means. It will be time for FrightFall! A full month of nothing but scary reading (for me anyway)!

We start at 12:00am central time on October 1st and end at 11:59pm central time on October 31st. (There is now a handy link to a time zone converter in the menu above) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding sign up and wrap up, especially in regards to the giveaway.

This year we're having a pre-readathon on September 29-30 and a post-readathon on October 31 - November 1. These will be 48 hour readathons. No special sign-ups needed for these. If you're participating in FrightFall, you're automatically in (if you want to be).

Just a reminder, I have eliminated the wrap-up linky and we are now just using the Google form for wrap-ups (since I require your wrap-up link there anyway). That way you don't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. The wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post instead of the prize page. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize. (If you want to visit people who participated, you can do so via the sign-up/starting line linky. I will have a link to it on the wrap-up post).

Just remember...the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). Since we are doing a month long, I hope you will indulge the scary a bit more, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #FrightFall and we have our outstanding Facebook group which is the BEST reading community. Of course, I'm biased! Don't forget our our Goodreads groupand our Instagram  (There are also access tabs in the sidebar menu.)

Two orders of business...
  • I am looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know.
  • Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! Contact me via the contact form in the menu. If you know of an author who might be interested, pass along a message. Thanks!

Sign up in the linky below. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post (I'll have a grab code in the sidebar soon).

We will end at 11:59 pm CDT Sunday. Adjust the times according to your time zone (you can use the time zone converter link in the sidebar menu).

We're playing fast and loose with this one so no real rules, no prizes, no hoops to jump through. Read scary, or not. It's up to you. Just read and enjoy! Share with us on social media, your blog, Goodreads, etc. Don't forget about our Facebook group, our Goodreads group and our Instagram.

If you're wondering about Something Wicked This Fall Comes, hop over to Castle Macabre for all the details.

High Summer #Readathon - Wrap it up! #HSreadathon

Oh my, but the months are flying by! Summer is halfway over, and it's pretty much all over for me, as my sons go back to school next Tuesday! And look at us...we have another readathon under our belts.

I hope everyone enjoyed High Summer and that you were able to get a lot of reading in. We also had our four day Christmas in July Readathon at the end. I hope those of you who read Christmas-y titles felt a little bit of the spirit, as I did. Thank you all so much for joining me for another readathon!

You have until Monday, August 6 at 11:59 pm CDT to fill out the form. I will email the winners within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account. (Prize page is here)

Looking forward, of course we have the month long FrightFall Readathon in October, but I'm also working on adding some extra fun (since we do love our scary...a good bit of us anyway). Every year I host two events at my horror blog, Castle Macabre. Gothic September and Season of the Witch in October. Well, the wheels are turning and I'm trying to come up with an all encompassing event that will take Castle Macabre and Seasons of Reading through a spooky autumn. Stay tuned!

Once again, thank you for joining me and I hope to see you next time.

(If you would like others to visit your wrap-up post, please leave a comment below with the link to your wrap-up, or you can visit participants via the starting line post linky here.)

#ChristmasinJuly 4 Day #Readathon Starts Now!

It's time for our four day Christmas in July Readathon! I can't believe July has flown by so fast. Of course, I say that every month.

What are your plans? Will you read all Christmas? Will you continue on with strictly High Summer reading (which also lasts for four more days), or will you do a little of both?

I'm thinking I might squeeze in one small Christmas read, after I finish To Kill a Mockingbird. I've certainly been in a festive mood, watching Christmas movies on Hallmark and I even listened to Christmas music in the car yesterday! I've been sharing a few things over a my Christmas site, Christmas Spirit. Not as much as I wanted to, but I have four more days so will try to add a couple more Christmas-y posts. I hope you'll stop by to visit.

I hope everyone is enjoying High Summer and will enjoy the Christmas readathon as well. Happy reading, whatever you decide to read the last four days!

High Summer #Readathon - Mid Event Check-in #HSreadathon

I'm a few days late with this check-in post. Sorry! My month has not gone as planned, and my summer is pretty much over now that my younger (15 year old) son has a job and my older son has football practice every day. I'm now a glorified taxi driver and school hasn't even started yet. Not long to go though. They go back August 7th.

How is your reading going? I hope you're picking up some books that you're really enjoying. Seems like there are a lot of  other exciting readathons going on this month too. There's the 24in48 Readathon this weekend, July 21 and 22. Then there's the Dewey's 24 Hour Reverse Summer Readathon starting Friday, July 27 at 8 pm ET and ending Saturday, July 28 at 8 pm ET. Fun! Will you be joining in on either of these?

Don't forget about our Christmas in July Readathon at the end of High Summer, during the last four days (Saturday thru Tuesday, July 28-31). Just a reminder...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you.

In case you missed it, the High Summer prize page is here.

Let us know how you're progressing with High Summer. Leave a comment and/or leave a link to an update post if you like.

Let's keep going! Happy Reading!

High Summer #Readathon - Let's Go! #HSreadathon

I hope everyone is ready for our month long event of relaxing summer reading, with a little bit of Christmas in July mixed in! (P.S. If you love Christmas, I'm hosting a month long Christmas in July event at my Christmas blog, Christmas Spirit. I hope you'll stop by!)

I have a few prizes lined up and I'll have the prize page posted by the end of the first week. I'm thinking of eliminating the wrap-up linky and just using the Google form for wrap-ups (since I require the wrap-up link there anyway). That way you won't have to do two steps at the end of the readathon. So, that means the wrap-up Google form will be on the wrap-up post instead of the prize page. I will have a yes/no so you can let me know if you're opting out of winning a prize.

Don't forget, during the last four days (Saturday thru Tuesday, July 28-31) of the readathon, we are having a Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines in the sidebar menu or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment (or send me a message via the contact form). The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/The True Book Addict (goal post).

I will post a mid-event check in post at the halfway point. Our hashtag for the readathon is #HSreadathon  Don't forget about our Facebook group and we now have a Goodreads group!

Here we go! Happy Reading!

High Summer #Readathon - Sign up! #HSreadathon

High Summer is almost here...less than two weeks to go! This will be our first year as a month long event. Last year, I decided to make all the seasonal 'thons a month long and everyone is loving it, including me. As I mentioned in the SciFi Summer wrap-up post, I will once again be hosting a special Christmas in July Readathon (in conjunction with the Christmas in July event at my Christmas blog) during the last four days of High Summer. So, July 28 - 31! Participation in that will be entirely voluntary and if you decide you would like to, you still don't have to do the whole four days. I'm completely flexible. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon, or mix and match. It's up to you.

The official dates are July 1 through July 31, starting at 12:00 am Sunday the 1st, and ending at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, the 31st. That's central time (U.S.), but you can adjust your times according to your time zone (there's a time zone converter in the sidebar menu). Of course, like most readathons, the books read must be novels or novellas (adult or young adult are fine), manga, anthologies, non-fiction, and you can even read children's books (as long as you do read some novels too). Also, Christmas books this time too! You DO NOT have to participate the entire month. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be an event of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBRs.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information regarding rules for our readathons can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names, email addresses and a link to your wrap-up posts so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page.

I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! (Contact me via the contact tab in the menu).

Our hashtag for social media is #HSreadathon ...and we have our wonderful Facebook group that is always very lively (there is also an access tab in the menu).

Sign up in the linky below. You do not have to do a post now, unless you want to help spread the word (much appreciated). If you don't have a blog, use Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, YouTube. Having a blog is not required. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post (there's also a grab code below the button in the sidebar. Note: the grab code is only for the High Summer button, not for the Christmas in July button).

I hope everyone enjoyed the readathon and that you were able to get some good SciFi (or fantasy) reading in. I'd like to thank you all so much for joining me. Be sure to add your wrap-up link below and please double check that your name is listed in the sign up/starting line linky at this post so you will be eligible for the giveaway. You have until Monday, June 18th at 11:59 pm CDT to add your wrap-up link and to fill out the form. I will email the winners within a few days following the deadline so keep a look out in your email inbox (or spam folder, just in case) for an email from my truebookaddict gmail account.

Hope to see you next month for the High Summer Readathon, all month long in July! I'll have the sign-up post for it up tomorrow AND, just like last year, I will be hosting a special Christmas in July Readathon (in conjunction with the event on my Christmas blog) during the last four days of High Summer.
