Guidelines

I could have called this page "Rules", but I hate rules and I'm not overly fussy about stuff so I decided to call it "Guidelines". This is the place to find out any details you want to know about the readathons hosted here at Seasons of Reading. If you can't find an answer here, please leave a comment on one of the current readathon posts, or contact me via the contact form tab in the sidebar menu.
  • there really are no requirements to join the readathons here at Seasons of Reading. You do not have to have a blog. You can join us from Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, or any other social media. (Visit this page for instructions on how to add your link to the linky if participating via Goodreads.)
  • the FrightFall and Spring into Horror readathons only have one requirement. You must read one scary book. However, that book can be horror, paranormal, thriller, mystery, etc. The rest of the readathon, you can read whatever you want. High Summer and A Winter's Respite readathons have no reading requirements. Yuletide Spirit readathon is of course holiday themed books (though I don't expect you to read all holiday books), and SciFi Summer is science fiction (but we allow fantasy too).
  • children's books are allowed on all readathons, as long as you are also reading some novels (adult, young adult, new adult, etc.). Non-fiction, graphic novels, etc. are also allowed.
  • we do not host any mini-challenges, but do not object to other readathon participants hosting something, or donating a prize(s). Please contact Michelle at the contact tab if you would like to host or donate something.
  • we have one giveaway (two prizes) at the end of the readathon, but you must have participated in the readathon to qualify. This means signing up via the sign-up linky and completing and linking a wrap-up at the end. We will no longer use a linky for wrap-ups. There will be a Google form on the readathon wrap-up post where you will enter your info, your wrap-up link, indicate which prize(s) you would like a chance to win. (winners are chosen from those who filled out the form, after eligibility is verified).
  • there will no longer be a starting line linky. Feel free to add a second link to the sign-up linky for your goal post (just be sure to include "goal post" when you enter your name the second time). Goal posts are not an absolute necessity, but it's recommended so visitors (including me) can stop by, see what your reading plans are and cheer you on.
  • each readathon has its own hashtag for social media. #WintersRespite #SpringHorror #HSreadathon #FrightFall #YuletideSpirit #SciFiJune
  • Winters Respite, Spring into Horror, SciFi Summer, High Summer and FrightFall are a month long. Yuletide Spirit runs the entire holiday season, from Thanksgiving week (U.S.) through December 31st.
  • We now have one 24-Hour readathon during each month long event. I will designate the date in the wrap-up post of the previous readathon, and in the sign-up post of the current readathon. On the day of the 24-Hour event, which will always be a Saturday, we will start at 10:00 am eastern time. You will participate according to your time zone. You can convert your time using the time zone converter in the sidebar menu. (If you're familiar with Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon, ours will work similarly with timing except we start at 10:00 am instead of 8:00 am.)
  • you do not have to participate for the entire readathon. You can start at the beginning and end early, or start later toward the end of the event.
  • all times are eastern time so adjust your time according to your time zone. For instance, if you live in the pacific time zone, you would start at 9 pm on the night before the official start date. There is a time zone converter link in the sidebar menu to make things easier. Each readathon starts at midnight eastern time on its starting date and ends at 11:59 pm eastern time on its ending date.
  • the deadline for wrap-up posts will be listed in the wrap-up post at the end of the readathon.
  • last, but not least, I leave you with our readathon credo...

A time of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries. So, no pressure...EVER! Enjoy!
